Re: Unsolicited relationship advice

I also mention strength because we are talking about differences in gender and masculinity. How strong someone is doesn't pertain to relationships. :P In all areas masculinity is required for survival safety believe it or not. Irrelevant and factually incorrect; survival skills are not equatable to...

Re: Unsolicited relationship advice

How so? If you pick a random man It will be easy to find a stronger woman. Do you not see that this isn't "and pick a random woman," but is observing that there is greater variation within groups rather than between them? That means that, who you've met or averages aside, there are still ...

Entomologist, psychologist, auditor, technology director. I think they represent a combination of being able to work independently and an interest in research or analysis. According to the quiz, that makes me a bug person. :) I agree with you, mels - the questions for that quiz were difficult to par...

Re: Unsolicited relationship advice

I Googled wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend, and found that a lot of people of those genders have trouble with sex.

Maybe, just maybe, sexual compatibility is important for many people in a relationship, and you're making too much out of an obsession with phallic desire.

Re: I want to be Mechanical Engineer but.....

What you're talking about sounds a bit like systems engineering, industrial engineering, or even computer engineering.

Do you know any engineers, or ways to contact people in the kinds of fields you're interested in? Asking them some questions about what they do might help.

Re: Unsolicited relationship advice

Men are very sexual this is why prostitutes exist and strip clubs along with porn etc. Crude conversations are usually had by men where there is no female presence. [MFS denies this] So you have never had a sexual conversation among your peers. Duly noted You never have had issues with women in rel...

I finally got to lay the expansion to Betrayal at House on the Hill last night. I got to play an 8 year old girl who fended off the evil sorcerer with a spear. 10/10, would play again.

Sometimes when I play the space-sim strategy game Stellaris, I make my empire's color purple and give it a logo featuring a ringed planet. Its ethics are fanatic pacifist, and my starting species is purple-hued birds who form an enlightened hegemony.

I like my hairstylist, but I got my hair pretty short from being shoulder length, and she seemed really worried about cowlicks. How do I know? I have a bunch of gunk in my hair and it looks like I failed at a pompadour. I don't even mind cowlicks!

Re: What does your ideal bedroom look like?

Windows are a must. Natural light in the daytime. Light walls - cream, white, grey, blue, all of lighter hue.

I do also like having a cramped corner full of books. But that doesn't have to be in the bedroom.

Re: Unsolicited relationship advice

Unsolicited here means "not asked for." Nowhere does the OP ask what she should do. Furthermore, it was in the Ranting forum. That's why the post was moved. The other one was deleted for being off topic. DarkOne gets at why the advice might not be so useful. Besides the false generalizatio...

Re: Mansplaining???

As a feminist I can't say "Hey, treat me like you'd treat anyone else!" and then cry that I can't handle the way a man explains things. I've hardly noticed men mansplaining to me, but I've certainly noticed men mansplaining women in my life. If "the way a man explains things" me...

Re: What is the optimal amount of art to have in your home?

We have a minimum of three pieces of art per room. They aren't necessarily big or expensive, but they're often stuff made by people we've known or have met. At minimum, I want to be able to explain why I value it. http://i.imgur.com/sVG0Aw0.jpg An example - a robot. They've been painted onto a woodb...

Re: Blue Foods?

I had a cocktail last night that had Suze in it. Turns out that it's a bitter flavored with gentian roots. Gentian is a blue flower (Wikipedia).

The bitterness reminded me a bit of grapefruit. I wonder if the flowers taste similar to the root-liquor.

Re: "Let her speak, please!" - mansplaining at the World Science Festival

On my first viewing, I pick up on two things: first, he seems to be explaining a lot of what she could explain; second, when she gives verbal cues for interjecting back into the discussion, he ignores them and goes on, but she stops whenever he interrupts. It's a double-standard; he's able to get wr...
