Re: Hello!

Welcome to the board! Answers may vary to what you want to know. Personally, I find it useful to have some places (like this) where people sometimes talk feminism and know a thing or two already. It pushes me to do more reading of my own, to try to describe and work through difficult ideas, and to l...

Re: Total Solar Eclipse 2017

My in-laws want to do a family get-together for this in Wyoming. I'm like, "Gotta teach the next day, have fun!" At least a 5 hour drive directly to the path is somewhat feasible. Jeez.

Re: Quicktakes

Not dog taint water!

I've been writing this morning at a coffee shop. It's small - about 22 seats and 1 unisex bathroom. 2 baristas, one register.

A school bus of at least 25 high schoolers just stopped here.

I'm going to leave an extra tip today.

Sexual harassment in the workplace, re: commentary on Fox News's recent turnover

I'm going to set out a perspective I'm thinking about regarding sexual harassment in the workplace, in immediate response to Fox News's recent high-profile staff turnover but with an eye to the problem generally: Roger Ailes, Bill O'Reilly, and similar figures get away with sexual harassment for so ...

Quicktakes

Sometimes I have things to rant about that don't really deserve a full post, but amuse me to mention. I thought it might be fun (or disastrous) to have a thread like that. Thus, I've coined appropriated the term "quicktakes" for quick expressions of frustration or ennui at trivial things. ...

Then again, they're also too big to thumbtack. :dance2:

Re: Brexit

^ Almost as many people voted against Brexit as for it, so it's strange to say "Britain did not consider themselves European to begin with." Obviously a large contingent of Britains disagree, welcome Polish immigrants, and so on.

Re: The Gentrification of Standing Rock

the only solution this forum knows is doing nothing. That's an overgeneralization. I think the article illustrates that allies need to listen carefully to the advice given to them by the people they're trying to help: how will they put their efforts to best use? what local knowledge should they con...

Re: "Thor: Ragnarok" and "The Last Jedi Trailers"

Why can't Jedi be plural? It's one of those ambiguous nouns: 5 Jedi walk into a bar. The last Jedi could be Luke, Rey, or someone else. That said, I suspect it's Luke, who is rather like a prophet who knows he can't fully disbelieve the old ways but wants to nudge Rey (now that she's found him) in a...

Re: what planet would you like to visit?

I have to narrow it down (based on memory, apologies for inaccuracies): Mercury: close to the sun, might be alright on shadow side. Downside: dawn is really hot. Venus: Could I parasail in the upper atmosphere? Downside: then I'd fall and die like immediately from acid and heat. Earth: Known quantit...

Re: what do you like on your taco?

Protein substrate, onions, cheese are standard. Beans and lettuce are optional. Other ingredients I tend to be very picky with: usually no to sour cream, salsa, or tomatoes; guac, radish, and cilantro I'd try.

I like both soft and hard shell. I tend to overstuff the first and understuff the second.

I liked the original post when I read it the first time, melsbells. I didn't feel like I had enough of an answer to reply, but it would've been better than that. I think if we have access to power and the availability to march and act, we should. We should also develop messaging that explicitly addr...
