Re: What did you love about the 1980s?

I liked the emergence of the space shuttle program, and the space-oriented sci-fi that emerged in this decade, from Iain Banks's first forays into the Culture books and Isaac Asimov's continuation of the Foundation books to Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis trilogy. I liked the cartoons. Yes, They were m...

:O Sergeant York is one of my favorite heroes. Like, seriously. It helps that he's from my state, so we grew up learning about him.

Take out that phrase, and it's just as true. :/

But seriously, there are a lot of trans-exclusionary groups out there, and regrettably some are feminist.

Re: what's the last movie you saw?

^ Agreed! I saw King Arthur. I liked it as this medievalist metal action flick, brooding and serious to the point of near-absurdity at points, willing to crack some humor at other points. So, as an action flick it's rather light on the explanations, and at times a bit muddled. The action begins with...

^ Oh my God, I've never understood why people didn't just swallow their spit, and for a while I thought I might be gross for doing so. Then I realized that was because I hung out with baseball players and other gross boys, and I was doing okay. Spit in park grass is gross. On concrete is doubly gros...

I saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I enjoyed it a lot. 3.5/:5houses: Spoilers: Maybe I've read about enough utopian worlds that I usually begin looking for the skulls under the surface, or maybe I've seen enough films involving demi-gods that I can predict the moment they'll shift from &qu...

Re: What monster should my tabletop characters fight?

I went with an entlike creature that tapped its roots into baristas to mind-control them and set off natural disasters to build up a world tree that would restore the life of the city (while choking out its human denizens). So in many ways it was like a cultist for an Elder God. It got defeated when...

Re: Disney Princess Avengers

Just an aside, I'd watch a Disney Princess heist film. I think in many ways that plays better to their strengths without having to radically rewrite their characters: subterfuge, strategic planning, observation, charisma, and execution are all necessary to bring a successful heist about. Mastermind:...

The National Air and Space Museum is my absolute favorite, even if it turned me into a weepy mess the last time I visited. (In a good way, like a pilgrimage.) I also really like the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford, just for its collections of vast amounts of objects presented together in clusters of ca...

I've never had lobster. Is it like gigantic crawfish?

Re: Disney Princess Avengers

Would it be like Kingdom Hearts, where beloved Disney characters and Square-Enix characters coexist in a single universe? That game series has the Princesses of Heart, a group that represents the light against the darkness in the world. At least in the original game, they largely end up being damsel...

What monster should my tabletop characters fight?

I'm running a Buffy-style monster game on Friday with some friends. It's a one-shot - people will get characters and jump right into it. The setting is present-day, medium-sized town.

What kind of monster would you like to fight? I've listed some common archetypes. above. Also make up your own.
