Re: Happy birthday DarkOne!

Happy Birthday! I tried to find you a present that had something to do with building continents, but the google offered me tool and dye manufacturing, economic growth in Africa, architechture in South America, and kids' books that looked promising until I looked into them. So instead, to tie in cont...

Re: How do you pass time at boring parties?

I try to catch all the words I understand and remember them to ask spouse and find out how off I was later. I really suspect they wouldn't be boring if I could follow along. When that gets to be too much, go outside and cry.

Usually 35, sometimes 34, or for the U.S. more often 3, but I used to have some size 4 (women's 6) Doc Marten's that were my favorite for years. I like getting to buy my shoes in the kids' section.

Re: Nerdy bachelorette party ideas?

I'm still jealous of my brother's bachelor party where his friends each gave him a board game. Sounded way more fun than any of these types of shindigs that I've attended.

Ever since a friend of mine made me some agar agar dessert, I've wanted to make something similar and serve it in petri dishes.

I'm against the protoplanetary system, because it somehow demands all of my attention. I must look at it. I'm against spacefern because I'm bitter about it's non-existence, and I'm against the original sun because I'm against all the emotions of change only to change back.

Re: Dialogue principles

But what in the world are the first two demands about? Are they meant to be hyperbolic (in which case, *literally* demanding civil disobedience is very confusing)? Why is it reasonable to expect white women to be the first ones there, as opposed to just "there". Is this a request for some...

Re: How comfortable do you feel asking about someone's race?

My idea of an icebreaker is, "What's the most morally-complicated situation you've ever had to deal with and how did it affect your worldview?" I feel similarly to Rowan. I like hearing out people's worldview and events they identify that have shaped those views, but I would probably answ...

A critique of Feminism worth reading

I get the vast majority of my English language and U.S. based news from http://www.npr.org . I've been a dedicated reader of Code Switch (with an editorial staff that I greatly respect), so when I saw the article titled Today's Feminism: Too Much Marketing, Not Enough Reality , I decided it was wort...

Re: what's your personality?

I told a friend recently that I sometimes get withdrawn and cynical. She accepted the withdrawn part but as far as cynical goes, she said, "no, that's like, awareness of the polarized nature of the world we live in". I don't know if I've ever taken a personality test.

I used to be that person. The person I would sometimes like to be is the person who doesn't have a TV because I have a projector. The person I actually am isn't sure how big the TV is, but it was in the apartment when we moved in.

I can't wait until the -gate suffix is retired. But that's just a pet peeve. I wonder if there are already people out there who think Watergate was a scandal about water? I wanted to get our kid a stuffed animal before they were born. I was trying to assign some sort of personality to the kid by thinking up how to make an armadillo or something. Spouse convinced me to wait because we would inevitably get stuffed animals. There are far too many and they're almost all ...

Next January. I'll inquire about Nech's suggestion. When we opened this account, I discovered that it's on the bank to close the old account and transfer your money to their institution for you, but I can't see how that could actually be required of us to accept. I'll find out tomorrow.

I just want my bank to be dependable and not evil

When I first got married, spouse and I had seperate bank accounts. Mine was way over in the U.S. and basically useless. I had checks, which no one had any idea what to do with. I couldn't do direct transfers. Any payment had an extra cost of converting between currencies. We were just always using s...
