Re: LinkedIn

I've been wondering about this, too. Is anyone here involved in recruiting and actually uses LinkedIn to find candidates? Or maybe they use it for unofficial verification?

Re: Job!

Congrats! New jobs are always exciting. I have a neighbor who is a nurse and just got hired at Mayo Clinic. She was super stoked, as was I, but none of our other neighbors seemed to understand why we were making such a big deal out of her condiment nursing job. :P

Re: Cheating the system CLEP vs. AP tests for college credit.

There's a lot to respond to in your post. A few random thoughts: - Regarding the FE, I took it my last semester at school. It's been years since I took it, but my impression is: Sure, technically, you could just study for it and possibly pass it, but even if you do, i don't think it would mean much....

Re: have you been to a protest?

Not exactly. I did boycott a number of "class boycotts" (or student "strikes"?). The so called strikers were just 8-10 people blocking the gates at my closed campus whining about their almost free tuition going up by $10 per credit hr, 95% of students just played hooky on strike ...

Re: What is your earliest childhood memory?

I was about 2- or 3-ish. My mom left me in our green Nova for a sec while she ran inside the 7-11 to get milk. Then a giant Tweety bird appeared in the driver's seat and kidnapped me while driving like a madman. It took me a few years to realize this was a memory of a dream, and not something that a...

Re: How are you feeling?

I'm finding it hard to keep it together. I'm in a super red state. I'm always the first one in at work, and of course, first guy who walks in gloats. I just about ripped his head off ... in my mind. I managed to keep it classy. But, really, today, right now, I just want to cry. Punch shit and rage c...

Re: Academic redshirting

GAh, I'm on the fence about this because I do see both sides of the argument. My kid has always been around kids who are older, and it seems like these kids are "pulling" her into their age group, teaching her behaviors of older children and and making her challenging herself. But she is N...

Re: do you work in an office?

I work in a blah sea of workstations and desks. I wish I had walls. Status 'round these parts comes with walls. I have none. If I had at least one wall, I'd answer "yes". But no; I just work in an office-like environment.

Academic redshirting

Inspired by melsbell's "development balance" thread, I'm curious about your experiences related to academic red-shirting. If you're not familiar with the term, this is the practice of delaying kindergarten for children who would be on the younger end of the age range of their expected scho...

Gave up my seat on the six train... to a girl. Then I felt bad.... Meh, I call no biggie. Did she take it? Sounds like she took it (or there would have been a spiel on how she refused) If she took it, then you did something nice for another human being. I say if you feel like you can handle it, off...
