See the real thing is I just don't go to boring parties. I go to parties where there are friends and good food and ... that's not boring.

Re: Gender and racial biases in professor's newsvideo

It makes me wonder if one bias here is that none of us (to my knowledge) have kids, so it's harder to imagine the chaos. Almost all of my friends are like oh ahhahahaha yeah that totally would be me/us/has actually happened lol look at the kid who is awesome. It's hard, you know, you're trying to b...

Ohh I did read and finish Girl from Everywhere and its sequel Ship Beyond Time . Good books! Also read Binti: Home , and I liked it better than the first one. Also recommend! My plan to read "authors I follow on Twitter" is going all right! Next up: NK Jemisin's Broken Earth series.

I have my solar glasses already :D And several possible plans, but mostly they involve staying with people I know so I'm not worried about hotels. Definitely have heard that things are booking up though.

Re: Is beauty a cultural fabrication?

1) we already know that what constitutes "beauty" is neither constant through time, and is driven by society
2) being "overweight" is not unhealthy. I'm not your google but there's plenty of literature out there.

Re: The "biological argument"

I think pretty much all awfulness has seen an uptick. It's becoming more socially acceptable to say horrible things you* think even if you know they're harmful to people. Hence the uptick in all hate crimes lately.

Re: Brains, Bees, Balls, and Behavior

Wait was there a different shape to choose from? I think it was distance they decided on, not shape? Or did I miss something. Either way, choosing a closer thing/different shape rather than the usual color/shape thing doesn't diminish your argument.

Re: STEM or STEAM?

Hm. I'm not sure STEM vs STEAM does a lot to address the structural inequities of women (and more pointblank under-represented racial groups) within STEM. However I do think that if STEM can start to fucking acknowledge that it is not apolitical, that it's always been political and allow people to b...
