Re: Promoting Gender Equality

Feminism doesn't address most of those. Feminism addresses those aspects where women are disadvantaged and seeks to improve conditions for women and only pays any attention to men and boys from the perspective of how it relates to helping women. The MRA addresses the aspects where men are disadvant...

Re: what's the last movie you saw?

My post contains spoilers. Saw Wonder Woman two nights ago. I was generally impressed. They did a better job than all the recent superhero movies IMO. The dialogue was not too cheesy. The one egregious error that they made which I can't really forgive them for is that Diana was actually breathed to...

Re: Special Event for Women discriminatory?

Yeah I think this is discrimination it doesn't matter that there other screenings for men or that are open to everyone wouldn't that be separate but equal. All in all I just think this a stupid dumb idea and I can't think of any reason why a non white person would go. If your white go ahead and go ...

I think we should make one up. Like poptake, a portmanteau of popcorn and take.

Also, a well made animated movie makes me smile.

Re: what's the last movie you saw?

Wonder Woman - For me, best DC movie since Dark Knight. Themyscira is beautiful. It's like they discovered there was more to a color palette than grey and it is just a gorgeous landscape. They really take advantage of the Greek mythos that inspired Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot is great and I don't see a ...

Re: Special Event for Women discriminatory?

This is a charity event I may have missed something in the news coverage. How is it a charity event? I didn't see any mention of charities or raising money for a particular cause. My mistake. Only a few theaters are giving proceeds to local women's charities: http://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/26/women-on...

Re: Special Event for Women discriminatory?

It feels unnecessary. There's a time and a place where women-only spaces are appropriate or even necessary to provide support and safety. Maybe this is my privilege talking, but a screening for a Wonder Woman movie hardly warrants this type of safety net. Yes, women-only spaces are absolutely discr...

Special Event for Women discriminatory?

Some men seem to think so: http://movieweb.com/wonder-woman-all-female-screening-male-uproar/ http://movieweb.com/last-jedi-male-only-screening-request-star-wars-executive/ The two links above are how some men are reacting negatively to a Women's only screening of Wonder Woman. They make claims that...

This seems appropriate for my gym rant. When I go to the gym, people who don't rack weights really frustrate me. I mean sure for me it's only 135 lbs, but someone else might be lucky to be able to lift 1/3 of that (I used to be one). Also related is returning gym equipment where you found it. I shou...

Re: Disney Princess Avengers

Just an aside, I'd watch a Disney Princess heist film. I think in many ways that plays better to their strengths without having to radically rewrite their characters: subterfuge, strategic planning, observation, charisma, and execution are all necessary to bring a successful heist about. Mastermind...

Hijack ahead: I'm gonna be a grouch and just state for the record that I am annoyed by the whole idea of Disney Princesses. This may have been recently exacerbated by my kid watching a dumb Tinkerbell movie where there was dialog that goes along the lines of: Girl: "Oh, I thought the seasons w...

Yes. When I was in college, I did some folk dancing for some shows that celebrated Filipino American culture. It was fun despite all the times I had performance anxiety (which were for all shows). I even danced in a loin cloth in my first show because that was the Freshman men's rite of passage danc...

Would it be like Kingdom Hearts, where beloved Disney characters and Square-Enix characters coexist in a single universe? That game series has the Princesses of Heart, a group that represents the light against the darkness in the world. At least in the original game, they largely end up being damse...

So apparently a script is being shopped around Hollywood, described as an Avengers-style movie but for fairy tale princesses. http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/828171-princesses-movie-being-shopped-as-avengers-for-fairy-tales So of course I got to thinking, what if Disney got a hold of it and de...

Re: What monster should my tabletop characters fight?

As a D&D player, I am now imagining a tarrasque in pants. In my current game, my players are racing to keep Chernabog from rising. A powerful hellspawn might be quite fitting for Buffy. I kind of also like the idea of body snatchers for a one-shot. Especially if you infect a player and inject so...

Re: Sexual harassment in the workplace, re: commentary on Fox News's recent turnover

Tbh, unless victims come forward all at once, I don't see how such leadership (who doesn't see harassment as a problem) will change. And unfortunately, it requires people to experience that first before change in such a culture can be made to prevent other victims. I really don't see an established ...

Re: "Thor: Ragnarok" and "The Last Jedi Trailers"

I didn't like the Led Zeppelin score. They're just replicating what they did with Guardians of the Galaxy by using the old school music. Zeppelin is supposed to be counter-culture. The very industries that used to hate them are now casually using them in movie trailers? Screw that. Led Zeppelin has...
