Re: What's your favorite national anthem?

To be honest I know maybe three. The Canadian one, the American one (because it's inescapable), and the EU one (seriously? Ode to joy? Who chose that?). I like mine best, because patriotism.

Public spitting. Why?? Just swallow it?? Or if you must find a bathroom toilet, garbage can, or Kleenex to spit into? Just saw a dude spit into some grass like a meter away from where some people were sitting. This is why we can't have nice things.

Yeah I thought I had that and then dude decided he really really wanted to sleep with out friend and couldn't figure out why I was upset because he thought relationships shouldn't impact each other and anyway that's why I'm looking for a roommate now (well, that and not making enough to afford my o...

Re: Important announcement of importance

Fuck I have to do it soon. If I can ever find a roommate/place, which is also the worst. Actually I looked at a pretty ok place last week but then my friend said she might know someone else possibly looking for a roommate and that would be better but I haven't heard back from her and basically I ha...

Re: Do you know HTML?

I can read enough to not mess anything up too badly. I once had a job which included copy pasting french translations of text into html instead of English (for the french version of the website). This involved extremely basic understanding of both french and html and an ability to not drop dead of ...

Re: Have you performed on a stage?

Yup a couple of times modelling my own art thing or a friend's hair creation. If you count performing without a stage I took a few really amazing performance art classes in school which involved a fair amount of performances. I actually loved it despite normally having a lot of performance anxiety f...

That WOULD be rad. Although it actually now occurs to me that even if the poet guy was related to the family I wouldn't be related to him still due to adoption in the family. :P

I think it's really important to have a safe space without trolls/people who just want to fight without actually discussing the issues. And sometimes I don't know who to ask about these issues in real life, so it's good to have an online forum to discuss these things on. I love this forum but I'm n...

Re: Bilingual Toddler

I think raising bilingual people is cool though, and supposedly does so much for the brain. These days it seems like 90% of the kids I hear about are in French immersion. Usually it's for reasons like class size though. I was never in French immersion but based on my experience in non-immersive cla...

Re: When do you seek medical attention?

I'm fairly good at the regular checkups but I have to be extremely sick to go otherwise. Not because of money (Canada) but mostly because of the inconvenience combined with not wanting to be a bother. Mind you my dentist died a few years back and I still haven't replaced him. So maybe I'm not that g...

Re: Are you related to any famous people?

No, no one I know of. I've met a couple of vaguely famous people because they were related to people I knew though. A two hit wonder minor Canadian rock star was randomly at a friend's wedding, turns out he was my friend's cousin. In high school I was a fan but when I made the mistake of telling my ...

Re: Bilingual Toddler

This is really interesting. When we eventually have kids I'd like to raise them bilingual (English and Bengali) but I'm not sure how feasible that's going to be since my husband isn't super at Bengali and I'm terrible. Most family gatherings on his side are 90% in Bengali though so we'll see. I'd li...

Re: Feminism outside the West

I have a couple of concerns with this conversation. A: the assumption that western feminists aren't concerned about human rights violations outside of the west and that we're doing nothing to spread awareness. This is absolutely not true, feminists are very concerned about rights violations in these...

My coworker says "k bye!" on the phone in a breathy tone which reminds me strongly of the episode of Gilmore girls where Lorelei imitates Rory on the phone (while talking to an alumni) and pretends to be an airhead. I have no idea why this bugs me so much.

Potato sticks like hard chip-like hickory stick things? Hehe yup. I wasn't familiar with the Canadian version, so I had to google it, but yes. I find the crunch oddly satisfying. I have no idea how this came to be, but it's a thing in Puerto Rico. :D Gah. Now I want one of these. http://oi66.tinypi...

I've had a vegetarian schnitzel at a place near me. It was fantastic. I think it was actually a Bavarian place though.
