Re: How comfortable do you feel asking about someone's race?

At a job I used to have we were supposed to make orders (waffles, crepes, coffees) that customers ordered at the cash register, and then deliver it to their tables. When I was on cash I would write things like "Brunette woman with pink sweater". When my boss was on cash he would write thin...

Re: How comfortable do you feel asking about someone's race?

I find whenever I'm asked (barring that Greek dude) it's just idle chatter. A simple question akin to "What kind of sports do you follow".
But as I said, I'm white.
I've certainly seen ass hole customers ask my coworkers "are you even Canadian?"

Re: How comfortable do you feel asking about someone's race?

I can't think of a time where I asked. It's not an interesting subject to me. I'm more likely to ask the more inappropriate question of what religion they practise/were born into. I'm a big mutt of mostly Caucasian heritage. I've notice whatever I reply people say "That's exactly what I would h...

Re: Women only companies. A disaster!

That's an article about shitty leadership nothing more. I work in a department that's all women (it just happened that way), my counterparts at other locations (that I have to work with) also happen to be women. We all work just fine. In fact, come to think of it the other department heads we work w...

Re: When do you go to sleep?

I can't nap, if I fall asleep my body expects to be asleep for 5+ hours. Right now I'm co-sleepi and find it easiest to just go to sleep with the baby at 8, then I'm up at 6 to pump, the couple extra hours are nice since I'm not sleeping heavily and I'm still getting up several times a night to pee.

Re: Are you a good dancer?

I once had a friend who loved dancing. She dragged me onto the dance floor one night. After ten seconds she let me go sit down again and apologized for making me (try to) dance.

Re: Vasalgel

I would consider reversibility pretty important. I wouldn't use anything that had a high chance of ruining my fertility for three months after stopping, let alone permanently. The reason most guys I know give for not having a vasectomy is that it's not really that reversible.

Re: Why SpaceFEM?

It's nice that you're straight (I'm not) but that has nothing to do with the discussion you've started. As others have pointed out, men can contribute without over powering or commanding conversation, just as lesbians can have sex with women without busting balls. There ARE places you can go if you ...

Re: Any1 else got a twin sister?

My mom's pregnancy with my sister was really hard and the doctors couldn't figure out why, one of the theories was that it was a twin pregnancy and something went wrong. Oddly enough when she was very young she was babysat by a woman who's youngest two were twins and she became the third of their du...

Re: Why SpaceFEM?

There are women only spaces. This just isn't one of them. I was under the same impression as Sonic, Spacefem is the founder of the place.

Also, if I never again hear the argument of men not being allowed to be feminists it'll be too soon.

Re: Why are men so ready to complain...

My aim goes way down when my pants are on, and I don't think I'm comfortable striping my lower body in a public bathroom just to use a urinal.
I do keep meaning to pick up the extra hardware that would make it easy though I don't relish the thought of cleaning it.

Re: what temperature do you set your space?

I tend to set the thermostat at 25. I have no idea if that translates to 25C, but it's my perfect "be comfortable naked or naked and wrapped in a blanket" temperature. My partner runs much hotter than I do and he prefers it cooler but I win because if it's colder I put on pajamas and he do...

Re: Why are men so ready to complain...

My fondest wish is that this thread devolves into people sharing their pooping habits. Before I got pregnant I pooped once a day (normally in the morning). Then I got pregnant and pooped once a week, it wasn't fun and where ever I was if I felt the need I went for it. Pretty much cured any hesitatio...

Re: Feminism and pro-life

I would categorize those people as pro-choice. They acknowledge that the final say is the woman's and don't want the procedure to be unavailable so they are pro-women-having-the-choice.

You can think there's a right and wrong choice without thinking the government should take the choice away.

Lexiewalt, I think we are very much in agreement, I'm sorry I was trying to expand on your ideas not state them as my own (although I have thought the same) that wasn't clear at all. While I'm not for legislating interactions I think everything else is spot on.

Re: Why are men so ready to complain...

I think that train cafe is asking for trouble lol I know what I would be tempted to do if I had to poop and there wasn't the option to do so. In general I do agree that those with privilege are the first to start whining, but I also think if a store offers food and drinks (or just coffee really) the...

Proven serious threat is often too late. You're not going to do all that much damage to a throat with your keys, but the serious attempt is going to make an attacker think thrice about their chosen target.

I was thinking of general stranger interactions. I do live in an urban environment where it's not uncommon to double check you're on the right streetcar or how exactly to get to some landmark. Funnily enough I dropped something yesterday and a young man chased me down a block to give it back, that w...

I've never taken an official one. But as a kid I got a bunch through school and brownies and such but those were about how to defend yourself as a child. In high school one of the Phys Ed sections was two weeks of defense (the only part of phys Ed that wasn't a waste of my time). I felt that was ver...

Re: Yuck Yuck Yuck - continued from "Ranting"

I think there's a distinct difference between being afraid of men (which I'm not) and being afraid of men who approach me when I'm by myself (meaning not only am I personally alone but there's no one else around). I'm also pissed off that politeness dictates that I talk back to a man who is talking ...
