Criminal investigator, apparently. Or a harp instructor, pottery artist, baker, gourmet or accounts manager. I'm looking into moving into accounts-based fields, actually, which is pretty interesting.

Re: what do you dislike about children?

They will zero in on whatever is inappropriate and latch on to it. They don't remember the stuff you're trying to teach them, but they will remember the word 'thong' for years and trot it out at the most inopportune moments.

Currently rereading Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb, and loving it. I last read it about 10 years ago, and I'm so relieved to find that it is as good as I remember it being!

My living room has most of my books, but it's a wall of bookshelves rather than a cramped corner.

What does your ideal bedroom look like?

I moved into an unfurnished flat recently and have been furnishing/decorating slowly to make it how I want it. I realised that my bedroom asthetics are the precise opposite of my friend's. Her bedroom is all about dark purple walls and curtains, dark furniture, dark purple bedsheets. She wants it to...

Re: Starting a new job as a personal banker... terrified

IANAPB, but part of a job is getting trained to do new stuff. It would surprise me if they just threw you into the deep end right away. I'm sure that you will get training, and if it isn't offered on the first day, I would recommend collaring your supervisor and asking about it. They hired you, whic...

Re: What is the optimal amount of art to have in your home?

That robot looks cool. A lot of my art is either art done by family members (I have paintings by my grandmother and my uncle, for example) or given to me as gifts. I have a couple of cross stitched pieces done by my mother or myself. I'd like to piece something using patchwork techniques and frame i...

Re: Mansplaining???

If that same friend begins explaining how socks are knitted, whether or not he knows that I am both a knitter and a sock designer, this is mansplaining. He has never picked up a knitting needle in his life Hi sorry I'm getting more of an idea but with that bit, if for say the friend didn't know tha...

Hello, welcome! Wipe your shoes at the door, no spitting is allowed, and don't forget to use deodorant. What pronouns do you use? Are you wearing pants? Do you play any instruments? What's your go-to main course if you're cooking and you want to impress someone?

Re: what are you reading?

My biggest problem with Eragon was that I had read the fantasy canon by the time I read it and I saw where every single bit came from. Eragon is straight out of the Belgariad. The old story teller guy was a combination of the Belgariad and the fool from Robin Hobb. Other bits were picked straight ou...

Re: Mansplaining???

It is rooted in the assumption that the man implicitly knows more about something than the listener, regardless of circumstance or the actual listener involved. For example, if a woodworking friend of mine, knowing that I am not a woodworker, starts telling me about some of the challenges associated...

Re: Promoting Gender Equality

1. Yes. 2. Boost marginalised voices. Challenge stereotypes verbally when they are expressed. Support education that avoids gender essentialism. Seek equality in your own relationships, whether that is romantic, familial, professional or friendships. Use whatever power you have financially and socia...

What is the optimal amount of art to have in your home?

In an ideal world, how much art would you have on your walls? I'm talking photos, prints, images, sculpture, tchochkes, whether made by professional artists or just instagram snaps you had printed, what would your ideal art coverage be, and why? For a long time, I was kind of in the 'art is for suck...

Re: What photos have you framed?

I favour lighter coloured frames, but I have light coloured walls. A medium wood grain works well for me and is neutral enough that it doesn't tend to clash with my art style preferences. I do have some narrow black frames and some white.

Re: What photos have you framed?

I have some macro flower photographs taken by my sibling that I framed. They're cool pictures. Most of the framed art on my walls isn't photos, though. I have some screen prints and some water colours, a couple of film posters. One piece done in crayon by one of my favourite artists which depicts va...

Not the part where I actually do the hanging of the curtains, but it makes me smile to have curtains in my house, that I chose and that I like.

Also, I just got done with a job that was not working well for me and I'm excited to move on to something that's a better fit for me.
