Irritability, grrrrrrr

Postby Neko » Sun Aug 19, 17:57 2012

I get really irritated when I work with people who make things more complicated than they need to be. I also get irritated when I'm asked a series of questions while I'm focusing on something else--usually I drop what I'm working on so I can answer the questions without being a total bitch, but sometimes I just can't change gears fast enough. Both of those are gifts from my father's temperament. When those buttons are simultaneously pushed, if not mashed, I come home from work as a crabby sack of sourpuss.

But it's okay, for damage control I've got some awesome vegan pizza and I'm talking to my adorable SO. Irritability is dissipating.

I have the same! I hate when people ask me things when I'm clearly talking to someone else (ie. customer). Also, when I'm on the phone with a customer, and my colleagues are chatting and laughing in my ear! I'm on the phone, SHUT UP.

Also, my 'new' supervisor had a go at me for completely no reason. Just yelling and going off for god knows why, so I told her I won't listen to her if she's talking to me like that, then I walked off. Grrr!

Good for you!

It annoys me when people are all chatty at me when I'm trying to actually work. Or even, like, an hour of chatty... I mean seriously, who tries to do that at work for so long? A few minutes, fine, but really I have stuff to do.

Also serious lack of organization on other people's part, so that it impacts my ability to get stuff done. I'm not even talking about people making things overly complicated, just look, if there are 10 things that need doing, and they're things that always need doing before I can do my stuff, how is it so hard to figure out what those things are? Make a list!

*ahem* Not that I am ever one of those people who does that. Nope! Not me! =P

I don't like it when people ask me a question without first getting my attention, and then act indignant that I didn't hear. I'm sorry, I tend to focus on particular things a lot, and while I'm usually aware of what's going on, I'm not always aware of everything going on around me.

I also don't like it when people make unpredictable requests of me very frequently. I hate feeling like I have to sit on top of the e-mail in case, five minutes before I planned to be done with my work for the day, a new job comes in without warning. It frazzles my attention.

I hate when people are so eager to help me that they give me piles of suggestions without giving me time to think through things. This usually happens when I'm playing complicated board games with people who've memorized all the cards, and they're like "Oh you should take x because then if you get y you can beat Dave if he gets z, except if Alex does q you'd be screwed, so you should maybe take w." and I'm like "wait I don't know what x does!" And if I just follow their suggestions then I never have a chance to actually learn the game myself.

Sonic, I had the same issue with unpredictable requests when I was VP of my swing dance club. My favorite was when the chemical engineer asked me, the one student on the board with no math or science background, to contact the professors who teach the big freshman engineering and math classes. More often it was making copies, though, which I could do but not always in the allotted few hours.

Ugh, these two points are what drive me crazy about my coworkers: they do things that end up being complicated, usually because that's what's easier for them, and they ask STUPID AND INANE questions all the damn time without bothering to first see if it's a convenient time.

Complicated only works until I replace it with a shell script. ;)

I get irritated when people ask me for advice and then blatantly don't listen to anything I said. These people are energy vampires and I have a three strikes rule with them. There's a woman in my class at school who is constantly worried about her health, so she asks everyone for advice about it; but she never takes their advice, or she listens to one person and then proceeds to ask every other person around. In the end she never listens and her health is in ruins. I've learned it is a complete waste of energy to help her because she does not want help, she just wants energy and attention.

I think wasting time and energy is up there in my top five pet peeves. I hate putting in effort seemingly for nothing, especially when it comes to ingrates or the chronically deaf.
