I'm new! It's nice to meet you!

Postby Snarky » Thu May 10, 2:29 2012

Hi internet!
My name's Zak, I just turned 20, and I'm a guy. That gets the most basic stuff out of the way!
I'm currently finishing my sophomore year of college, and I'm studying film. I hope to one day be a director. Or maybe a producer.Possible do some screenwriting. I'd settle for janitorial staff at a production company. I just want to be near movies.
In my spare times I like to watch movies of course- good movies, bad movies, movies that are so bad they're good tend to be my favorite. The Room, Troll 2, Birdemic, anything MST3K, pornos that try to have plot, and anything with Nicolas Cage. Other than that I like to listen to punk rock, complain, and write, I'm attempting to start out a film blog, but I'll leave that shameless plug until some other time. I love tumblr.
I'm currently wearing a hot pink t-shirt and jeans- sort of medium blue. I'm assuming my boxers are plaid. Almost all my boxers seem to be plaid.
I found spacefem because I think it's the first that popped up when I goggled "feminist forum" on Google. I just started going from feminist blog to feminist blog since last week, and I'm fascinated by everything that I'm learning! And I always end up with a ton of questions and thoughts and think maybe a place where open discourse is encouraged I'd be able to learn even more!
And I did read the FAQ!

I hope you guys are able to put up with me!

I'll certainly put up with you since you kind of seem like a mini me. I work as a janitor at a movie theater, so be jealous of my ability to work near movies while barely making above minimum wage!

The Room is great. I met Tommy Wiseau once. Either that guy is a very convincing actor or he really is batshit insane. I'm guessing batshit insane.

Welcome!

I am jealous! I have a ton of trouble just looking for minimum wage summer jobs. I've been looking in to all the movie theaters near my home. I had hoped to get an internship in NYC, applied to at least 20, and didn't get any this year.

Oh, I have heard some strange stories from people who have met that man. I would love to get an autograph from him though.

NYC is the worst place to get summer internships if you don't have connections from your school or from family. Also I don't think they do much movie-wise, since the entire industry is in the West :(

But welcome regardless! What college are you studying film at? I know one or two in the city that offers a really good course for people wanting to do independent stuff.

The connections thing is true, and there are less opurtunities here- but almost every major mvoie studio has a branch in NYC- including my dream job- TROMA entertainment- who brought us movies like "Toxic Avenger" "Class of Nuke em High" and "Poultrygiest"! Any other fans of obscure movies here? :)

I also have to consider funding- I can get some finical assistance for internships but not all- and I'm in NY already, so it's easier, and there are places where you can get specific housing for people doing internships from nearby colleges. Not as sure about how I'd be able to get to/live in LA.

I live and study in upstate NY actually- I go to SUNY Oswego, which recently started their Cinema program.
