Hi,
I am from Eastern Canada, a computer programmer by profession. I, like some people who posted, found this forum while Googling feminist forums. I am female but always thought of feminists and being man-hating, and never wanted to associate with them.
But, I had posted for years on anthropology forums and because I was a woman who posted sometimes controversial things and thought-provoking topics, I was attacked, and always, because I am a woman, my looks were brought up and also I was called "crazy" and a "bitch". I realized this is the crap that women have to put up with, and these forums were full of people who do not have as much inhibition, so they are repeating and doing what society thinks while behind their computer screens.
I saw people, men, bash women and blame us for the downfall of civilization. When I defended my own gender I was called a feminist and even had various men stalk me, collect my person information, and harass me, as far as calling me on my cell phone. I had gone to the police about one member but he lives in the US and I live in Canada. Although he broke the law in his US state (Texas), he did not break Canadian law. The cops in Texas cannot do anything until they get a complaint from the RCMP, and the RCMP will not send a complaint to cops in Texas until he breaks Canadian law.
I got attacks and harassment from male members on both sides of the political spectrum, left and right, conservative and liberal. So, here I am, now interested in feminism because of these bad experiences. I have used a different nickname because I don't want those people to follow me here.
Regards,
Sagouine
