Hello, guys!

Postby SpicyX » Sat Jan 14, 12:46 2017

I'm the SpicyX. You do not pronounce it as "Spicy Exx," as you might assume. It is pronounced as "Spicy SHHH."

I graduated from stanford with an ms in cs and I live in the san francisco bay area.

Hobbies include hiking, philosophy, software-defined radio, and beat poetry.

My favorite animal is the same as my favorite food: cow.

Nice to meet you guys!

Welcome to the board!

Is software-defined radio a term for services like Pandora and Spotify, or do you mean something else? What's your favorite software-defined station?

SDR is this stuff.

All of the signal manipulation is offloaded to the software, allowing for a very wide range of radio applications with a very cheap and simple set of hardware. For example, the same SDR box can set off a parking garage full of car alarms, ring doorbells, turn off traffic lights, decode ADS-B and watch airplanes flying around, send ACARS messages to make pilots think all of their toilets are malfunctioning. You can also talk to your friendly neighborhood fast food drivethru worker over their headsets.

Balint Seeber, the guy in the video, is a turbo-autist when it comes to this stuff. He was able to put together a relatively impressive radar system.

Hi SpicyX, welcome to the spacefem forums! What is the origin of your username?
Ugh, I'm tired of my signature.
