A.R. Rahman

Postby Aum » Thu Feb 11, 1:53 2010

I know this will end up in hell, but I don't care. I had to share this beautiful piece:

The flute is the Indian bansuri. This song is from the movie "Fire" by Deepa Mehta and performed by A.R. Rahman, a musical genius.

I don't think this belongs in Hell. Though I did edit your post to embed the video simply because I prefer it that way.

I've only listened to a little bit of it so far, but I like it.

edit: Okay, now I'm listening again. I really like this sort of stuff. Got anything else to share?

This one is a drum and bass song, and is my current favorite. Mixes bollywood with western electronic, a different taste than the above. :)

Thanks for imbedding the link before!

(Arg it's not working this time either!)

I really like the sound of his music...I'm not one prone to getting up and dancing to the music, that last song makes me want to groove right along!

(This is getting that I think we need an FAQ entry on it...okay, to use youtube tags, put the jumbly letters at the end of the address between them. Everything after the =. In this case, "f_V-pDPi7OM")

Ooo! That second one you posted sounds like the stuff they play at the hookah bars. I've always wanted to find music like that but I never knew where to look.

The genre is called drum and bass. Most DJs take pre-existing songs and remix them with heavy bass, like in the one above. Most of the time it's done with raggae and hip hop, which I sort of am not a fan of anymore... but I just love the Bollywood beats. Enduser made an album called "Bollywood Breaks" which has more stuff like that in it.

Nice. I love me some D&B. Not all of it, but, you know... when it's good. :P

Man, I hate that my favorite music site basically committed suicide. Now where do I go for all my electronic music... :(

I forgot about this thread. Thanks troll bot.

Here is another cool one (it's one song with two parts):

1)

2)

The prayer in the second part is this, if you are curious:

(I don't understand why the youtube tags don't work for me.)
