I kinda hate Santa Clause. I don't think it's necessarily universally bad to lie to children, but setting up this idea where the kids who are well behaved get lots of toys and the kids who are badly behaved get nothing is really short sighted when it comes to class issues. Also, if you want to raise your kid with the idea that lying is immoral, buying into such a big lie is really problematic, and can leave your kid feeling really resentful.
Other universal advice: read the FAQ. Check how dead a thread is before posting in it.
