Kindles!

If you had the choice between the ultra snazzy Kindle (with wi-fi access) or the ultra snazzy Kindle Keyboard (with wi-fi and 3G access) which one would you go for? The Keyboard one is bigger but the cases for it aren't as good, and the reason I would be going for 3G is that I'm not so sure it would connect to my internet at home. Basically, I need advice from someone with experience. Help!

The first question I have is why aren't you getting an android ereader for 1/2 to 1/3 the price?the only advantage of a kindle is their readability in bright daylight but I do more reading at night and my ereader allows me to turn off all the lights and read which I find much more convenient.

but to each their own I guess...

If you don't have a smart phone/lap top and are going to use the kindle to bang out emails and post on spacefem as you travel get the one with the keyboard, if you're going to use it to read 90percent of the time get the one without.
Don't worry about connectivity to the internet, the amazon "whispernet" thing should seemlessly hook up to your wifi and if by some weirdness it doesn't you can connect it by USB to any machine on the internet and it will do it's business in a minute or two.

If you're thinking about shopping for books on your kindle, yes you can but doing it on pc I find to be much more user friendly simply because of the screen size.

I second the android, not only because of the aforementioned factors, but because I won't buy anything that uses DRM technology. If I buy the content then it's mine to do with as I please. Androids also have modifiable platforms and more app flexibility. I'm not into this proprietary hardware/software non-sense.

Well, I will be using it mostly to read in all kinds of light while on the go and outside lounging around and it will be my birthday present from my mum. I like the side buttons and I like that it's not backlit (which can contribute to my ongoing eye pain). I've basically been given the choice between those two and I need help deciding.

I definitely like the fact that the Kindle's not backlit - it's a major plus for me. I'm not 100% sure which non-Keyboard Kindle you're referring to, but I think it's the case that the Kindle Keyboard (which is the one I have) has double the battery life and memory of most other models. Admittedly probably any kindle has plenty of storage space and plenty of battery life, but as you're not sure those could be good criteria to look at :). I also like having the keyboard for browsing in the kindle store via the kindle (sure, you don't use the keyboard a lot and it wouldn't be great if you were using it a lot, but to type things like "shakespeare winters tale" into the search box, it's great).

I got the keyboard version because I don't like touch screens. That may be something worth considering.

Yeah, I find the kindle touch screen to be particularly bad, too(not sure about Kindle Fire). I have the keyboard with 3g and it is great.

I got Kindle Keyboard with 3G because I hate touch screens. I didn't want something with too many extra features as I figured I wouldn't ever actually use it for reading that way. The screen is nice, I can internet with it somewhat, but it's not ideal for that at all, which is what I wanted, haha. Looking at the page feels more or less like looking at a piece of paper (I got one with e-ink, I think all the keyboard ones have that? not sure).

Awesome advice, thank you people! I'm going to be using at an a dedicated ebook reader, so I don't really need it for web. I do need to be able to download books on the go though, I finish them too fast! I finished a large book yesterday and then had to continue lugging it around with me all day, not ideal.

My only problem is, the case I want can only be shipped to the states.... anybody (stateside) want to be a fantastic go-between for me?
