What do you feel is your greatest achievement in life?

Postby spacefem » Sat Nov 4, 9:15 2006

Being an engineer ranks up there, but really I'd say I'm most proud that I got my top two wisdom teeth a year ago. I'm one of those rare people whose wisdom teeth came in perfectly and I won't have to have them removed or anything. This proves that I am wise. I apparently have no bottom wisdom teeth but I've grown to accept this, and just admire the top ones.

I think my best research work so far was done a few years ago at Statistics Canada in data quality and delineation. It felt useful and in-depth and fun.

I think the best decision I've made was taking the plunge with my current beloved, but it's hard to frame that as so much of an achievement as something crazy and wonderful and lucky.

Getting a job I love purely on my own merit and not due to stupid, 'certifications' or 'degrees'. I've been working as a Ruby on Rails coder for the past year, using entirely self-taught knowledge, and have 1000's of lines of code running tens of websites in production environments as well several tools I have written or helped to write to ease server administration.

The fact that I've done all this on my own, and that nothing I have learned at school other than Maths has contributed to this I view as my greatest achievement. Screw you school for wasting my time in the name of meaningless qualifications!

Being but a Junior in high school, I haven't really had much time or opportunity to accomplish anything significant.

However, I am pretty proud of my grades and test scores, and the fact that I've survived and maintained high marks even with a few really difficult classes.

As a single achievement, I would probably top the list with placing first in one of my events at a very significant and prestigious horse show in 2005, the Quarter Horse Congress.

I'm Russian. Not really an accomplishment, but it makes me awesome.

Oh, and I'm going to Yale. I think that's pretty freakin' cool.

I made my mum forget that I was her daughter.

Befroe you all go 'wf, mate??', let me explain. 2 years ago, I was in a production of the scottish play, with the Shakespeare Schools Festival. I took the female lead - that of Lady M. This was at the age of 15.

When my parents went to watch the production, my mum said afterwards that she forgot I was her daughter, and that she completely believed my performance. For me, that was a huge achievement. If even my mother believed in this character, I can't have done that bad a job of it.

Incidentally, I believed in her too. Murderous bitch. But she was so exhilerating to play.

Alright, same as Eravial, I'm a junior in high school and so I haven't done much.

However, I think so far for me it was finally deciding what I want to do. Theatre is my life, and it took me until halfway through last summer to finally realise that I literally wanted it to BE my life. move to New York, go to Tisch School of the Arts, get a B.F.A and act my heart out.

Oh booyah. Granted I haven't done all that yet, but I think getting rid of the doubt for what I wanted to do is huuuuge.

Either that or the fact that I was invited to the IMTA convention. [That's a long story, bt basically I'm going to LA to act infront of agents and managers from all over the world for film, tv, theatre, etc...]

Personally, I don't feel I have one yet. I'm still striving for it, you know? Sure, I've done some things, but none of these are really THAT wonderful.

So I'm in progress, I guess.

Being as young as I am, I haven't accomplished anything too great yet.
I'm not athletic, so I can't say I ever did anything great in a sport. I'm smart, but not so smart that I'd remember a great scholastic feat as my greatest achievement.
I suppose some of my drawings are pretty good.

surviving.
i am amazed that i am not a complete ass/basket case considering that i could total up the last fifteen years of my life as a 'learning experience"(or waste of time). What did i survive you ask? i will give you the short list:
in no particular order.
1. marriage
2. divorce
3. 10 alaskan winters
4. 22 dessert summers
5. speed/methamphetamines
6. driving while under influence too many times to count
7. various illegal activities best left unmentioned.
8. having both my parents passing away
9. having what i thought were friends for life fade into obscurity
10. overcoming what was probably clinical depression by force of will.

There is more but i dont want to scare you people...

I think I'm one of those annoying people who's never happy with what she's got or done, so I doubt I'll ever have a 'Greatest Achivment'. Ask me again when I'm 60.

My relationship with my fiance and my relationships with my friends... I've worked so hard on all of them. My ongoing goal is to make the people in my life as happy as I possibly can.

I guess that is mine too. At first I couldn't really think of any. At least, not on the top of my head. I have done so many crazy stupid things. And I'm not careful. I'll get reckless, and trust anyone. I know I am being stupid, but I'll turn off my brain for a while. Then turn it back on when things get too out of control. I am also very accident prone. Not in the car kind of way, but things dont work out for me often. I'll end up forgetting all my money and clothes some place while being all alone in a city for three days.

Yeah, add that all in with the fact that I am very temerarious, and I kinda take pride. Or astonishment. I'm not sure which.

I'm pretty much the best alto 1/2 that my school has right now. once I memorized 10 movements of latin (Magnificat by Vivaldi) which helped when I lost my music on the day of the performance. I'm also a blood donor and I'm type O-. yeeeeah. I rock.

For me it will be (once I have the money saved up) taking my trip to Australia hopefully for a year or longer. And then one day, maybe going to school there cause yea, me + winter+ stress= very itchy skin. The sun helps the eczema go away (hence it is never out in the summer and is barely out during the last few months of school). So yea, if I get to go there and go to school there, I would die. well...you know, heh.

Being in My Fair Lady as Alfie Doolittle made it for me. I loved every single minute of it, and although most of our cast are hapy it's over, I miss it every now and then.

It was being the greatest big sister I could be, but now that my little sister is gone, it just doesn't feel right to say it (especially because I could have been a much better sister). So I will say being among the first girl scout troop to climb Mount Whitney (and not puking once I got to the top- I got altitude sickness on all the practice hikes). That or helping to teach a child with mild autism and CP to talk and walk with a walker. He is so cute, too.
