legal smoking

Postby moop. » Mon Jan 19, 6:41 2009

This is not a "I'm too young to smoke" or an "I'm not planning on smoking" poll. This is for those over 18 who can smoke legally. This is solely me being curious about the people who can smoke and why they do.

Please explain your reasons for smoking.

Had plenty of opportunity to start when I was growing up, but it never really appealed to me. Just seemed like a really expensive thing to start doing, and there didn't seem to be any kind of point to it.

I'm 18 (almost 19) and have never smoked or bought cigarettes. If someone asked me to buy cigarettes for them, I probably wouldn't. I dunno, I'd feel like an enabler.

I don't smoke because I have very addictive tenancies towards lots of things and I feel that if I started, I would smoke in excess and never stop.

Just turned 18, but no plans to start smoking. It smells yucky and I don't see the point, other than the social aspect.

But I'd rather not suffer a -20º smoke break just to feed my addiction.

I don't smoke for a bunch of reasons. Some being the standard stuff they tell you in school (too expensive, getting seriously sick which has happened to some friends of mine unfortunately, etc. etc.), I''m not that interested in cigarettes, and I always get a headache when I spend too much time at a smokers place so I don't think I could stand my own home having that smell.

This. Why deliberately mess up your body in an expensive way? (both as in expensive buying of cigarettes, and probably also expensive healthcare at some point)

I've bought them for a friend once. She was of legal age but I told her that if this guy I liked wasn't gay then I'd buy her a pack. She helped introduce us and the guy wasn't gay so she earned her pack of smokes. Not that it would have been a bad thing if he had been gay, I just kinda had the hots for him. Stupid and immature, yeah yeah, I know.

Anyway, I don't smoke. But I'm around so many people who do that it's almost just as bad as if I did.

I used to smoke after the 7th beer or equivalent thereof.

Since I stopped drinking, I also ceased smoking. I've also not spend too much money on that.

I have never smoked a cigarette. I've never bought them either. I don't like the idea of addiction, and the whole health thing, and the immense cost, and the annoyance of having to go outside during Ohio winters to smoke. The last point I kind of suffer already, though, since two of my good friends back home are heavy smokers and I always accompany them to freeze outside when they have to have a cigarette. Also, stale smoke in cars and on clothing smells really bad. I used to hate all smell related to smoke, but after spending a summer working with chain smokers, I'm pretty used to it and the smell reminds me of them, so it's kind of nice.

The smell of weed reminds me of my childhood, cause we lived in a house in Boston with five of my dad's bandmates at the time.

When I went to warped tour in '04 I smelled weed for the first time since I was extremely young (before I knew what it was) and I was like "What is that smell? It's so familiar..." and someone was like "uhhh, that's pot"
it's actually a little comforting. i don't mind it at all

cigarette smoke, however, bothers me a lot
