The Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder

This is my all-time favorite.

New one!

Grandmother Fish releases today all across the US. Is the nation ready for a book that teaches evolution to the youngest children yet? You bet it is! Please join Karen and me as we celebrate this momentous day. Today is the day that I’ve been working toward for over fifteen years. In the last three years, many people have helped make the book better, and first among them is my artist, Karen Lewis. Now the book is better than I had ever hoped it would be, and it’s here.

If you want to know more about Grandmother Fish, here’s a review on NPR’s culture blog: http://www.npr.org/…/45284…/a-childs-first-book-of-evolution

An author friend of mine (who has won a Hugo) says it is really good, and has participatory elements and good for toddlers through kindergarten.

We've been reading Harold and the Purple Crayon lately. The word play is excellent. I'm also tempted to go through all the books on this list with my kid. I really like the idea of sparking larger conversations and all the books that I'm already familiar with on the list are great.

Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy E. Shaw was a big, big favorite of mine as a kid. Very silly and fun.
