fundraisers are evil

Postby xenolai » Thu Feb 27, 22:45 2003

We have this stupid fundraiser for school. It's called a hoop-a-thon, and the school board thinks we like it. NO, WE DON'T!! What makes you think we like it?!! HUH?? HUH?? It's freaking stupid!! So it makes more money for the school than an auction!! Well, at least the auction was FUN!! This is not fun, teachers, principal, whoever you are that thought this up!! It sucks!! I don't see HOW you can even CONSIDER thinking that we think it's fun and enjoy it! Y'know, maybe I should just fake being sick tomorrow!

*stops abruptly and takes a deep breath*

I am not looking for pity, please don't think that. I am just ranting about something so entirely stupid that...ok I will stop now.

Thanks spacefem for making a ranting section. :)

The only fundraiser you will see me doing is Girl Scout Cookies. And that's because they taste good, are traditional, and I wanna go to the dude ranch.

Ima raffle off a quilt for fundrasing, and possibly a couple other things. Hey... you look like you could use a new quilt... *brandishes raffle tickets* (please exuse my horrible spelling).

A hoop-a-thon?? That does indeed sound incredably stupid.

selling stuff for school was always one of my least favorite things to do. we used to have a fund raiser for choir, and I figured up that each person ended up making about $50 for the choir, so my senior year I tried to just give the teacher $75 and call it good and she said I needed to re-examine my attitude. Why, because my family members just loooove being bugged to buy wrapping paper every year? it was awful.

My school needs to have a fundraiser. I meanwe use colored paper, both sides all the time. Some rooms in our school don't even have walls, just they whatchamacallit things that fold up. We use sporks in the cafeteria. People from the school take pictures from the socail and sell them for $3. Is that stupid or what? Anyway, we sell :chocolate: .

I'd completely do a hoop-a-thon! Would that be something like seeing who can hula hoop the longest... for money? DAMN! And no school. I'd be wearing a hula hoop with bells on it... that would annoying!

I never do fundraisers that involve selling things to my family anymore because my parents think they're annoying and they'd rather just pay the balance. So that's what I usually end up doing.

In elementary school, we did Jump-A-Thons, but I never heard of a hoop-a-thon. Yay.

In jr. high, we sold magazines. Those come in handy.

right now, for sophomore class exec committee, we are going to sell prank bags for april fools day. we had some great ideas of what to put in the bags--- toilet paper, rice, marbles...
...still crazy, after all these years. : )

To raise money for our trip to Scotland, my choir is having a rock-a-thon. Which sounds really cool, right? Local rock bands and maybe some food?

Well, no. It's actually all of us sitting around in rocking chairs, and ROCKING them until we can't rock anymore. And we take pledges from people, and they pay us for sitting around in our rocking chairs. Should be a unique social event. Frankly, if someone asked me to pledge money for them to sit in a chair until they couldn't stand it... I'd laugh at them.

For those of you who are wondering what exactly this "hoop-a-thon" is...

You have 8 minutes to make as many free throws as you can (my school is small, so this was mainly targeted toward the younger kids). Before you actually do that, you have about 3 weeks to go out and ask your neighbors and family for money. They can pledge you a minimum of $2 for a fixed pledge or a minimum of 10c per basket you make. Also, it doesn't matter if you have all fixed pledges, you have to shoot anyways.
Now, let me tell you something. You get really tired shooting basket after basket after basket, and your chest might start to hurt a little bit. If you're like some of the people in my class, you might even near pass out after only 6 minutes.
I might have missed some things about it, and I may have even explained it in a way that sounds fun to some of you. But believe me, it is not. Especially if you suck at free throws.

oh, and we also have to make up a cheer and be enthusiastic and each class has to dress alike. which really sucks.
oh, i suppose shooting the baskets was okay, maybe i was getting a little worked up about it...oh well. it's just that...everybody else makes like 100 baskets and i make like 45.
don't think i'm whining, i'm not, but i don't like how people think that if you don't make that many you're a wimp. ah well, it's over now. :)
it's just the asking for pledges and doing the cheer and dressing just like the rest of your class i don't like. i suppose it wasn't so bad. but i still don't like it. :)

do you want to know what our cheer was? okay. I'll tell you. but you have to laugh. :D

I thought it was hulahooping too. That would be cooler. I can hulahoop, but I cannot play basketball.

dont ever have a friend throw hula hoops to you while you attempt to catch them over your head. Especially not while drinking a juice box, which will inevitably burst and all the juice will go all over you. also, remember not to freak out and casually throw the juice box at the principle who is standing behind you the whole time doing that whole 'as soon as you turn around and see me standing here then we'll stare in silence for a moment until the realization of the trouble your about to get into sinks in' kind of look.

I once hula-hooped for half an hour-- continuous on end.

Does anyone want to hear me bitch about having to go door-to-door, selling raffle tickets, all for a marching band trip to Orlando?
