All of our food we either grow in the gardens or the various allotments, forage, order from a wholesalers (beans, flour etc) or get out of bins. We happily and healthily eat non-refrigerated dairy out of bins.

I'm one of those paranoid people. i refuse to eat or drink anything that's out of date. I won't eat or drink anything dairy-related if it's been left out long enough to become warm. If it's something that has been cooked, i may or may not refrigerate it overnight

Off dairy is pretty blatantly obvious. We once had a litre of sour milk in the fridge waiting to be baked with and in a morning daze I poured myself a glass and realized my mistake halfway through my first sip. I nearly vomited. For that reason, milk is the only thing that I'll check the expiration date on, and that's only because I don't want to risk ruining a bowl of cereal. But even if it's over, I'll taste it before relegating it to be baked with.
