parking lot accident etiquette

Postby Neko » Sat Nov 6, 19:48 2010

I made a boo-boo. As I was pulling in to a space at work I swiped the rear bumper of the car next to me. Which is odd since I've never misjudged distances while driving like this before. I scraped some paint but there appeared to be no denting. Actually there was more damage to my headlight than their bumper.

I left a note on the windshield explaining what happened, a list with my insurance info, name, and phone number, and a sincere apology. I'm just not sure what happens from here. Since this is 2010 no one really wants anything other than money, of which I have none as a student working part time and all of it going to bills, I don't know what I have to offer them if they even call me about it. I'm totally new to this.

I've always been really nice to people who accidentally hit my bumper in traffic. So here's hoping some of that comes around my way this time.

Hopefully you noted down the make model & license plate of the vehicle you hit.

You need to give that info to your insurance company.

if they don't make a claim, then you get off clean.

*fingers crossed*

then don't stress it. wait till your insurance contacts you saying someone is putting in a claim, then say "oh yeah, I hit a car in a parking lot, I forgot".

no big deal.

worst case scenario, they used your note on their $80,000 mercedes vs whatever little car you bumped into.
