Crazy mouse

Postby Enigma » Fri Dec 3, 9:59 2010

My mouse has gone insane. I think it's about a year old and recently it's decided to start clicking on things on it's own. Even when I'm not touching the mouse it clicks on whatever the mouse is hovering over. It especially likes to click and hold for a few seconds which creates chaos as I try and move my mouse over icons.

I've tried basic unplug-replug stuff and it didn't come with a driver to reinstall. I've tried downloading a driver off the companies website (dynex) but it said it was "not designed for windows" which was odd so I didn't do that. I've googled this and come up with nothing.

Anyone have any ideas what might be going on? I'm on a job search and this is making trying to do anything, let alone serious error-free things like application filling out, pretty hellish. It's highlighted this paragraph every time I try and move the damn cursor out of the way of my words.

It sounds like the internal sensor for the clicking motion is semi-stuck so that any light sensation is setting it off. You will probably have to get a new mouse as this is a hardware problem that can't be resolved by installing some software.

UNLESS... somehow the mouse sensitivity in your control panel has been increased without you knowing. I would try looking there.

I really thought this was a thread about a pet mouse which had gone mad for the first five secs. You should have put it in Science & Technology or something... oh.

if this is a two button mouse, then go into your setting and switch the click function to the other button by making it a "left handed' mouse, then disable the "right click" function. if this is a single button mouse, know that you can actually maneuver through the windows environment using AlT, Ctl & TAb if necessary and once you get used to it you can do it pretty fast.

I saw cheap mice available for under 5 bucks when I google cheap mice.

me too! :speachless:

If fixing settings doesn't work, is there any way something could be stuck inside the mouse by the clicky part, that might be affecting it? I know my mouse behaves badly when it gets dirty, so it might be something similar. Unfortunately I've never taken apart a mouse to that extreme, but if you could unplug it and find a way in that won't break it and clean off some leads, you might be ok.

But yeah mice are cheap.

I've now tried another mouse (from my parents laptop) and it works. So it's definitely the mouse not the computer. I like Monk's idea but I right click a lot so it'd probably drive me insane.

I have no idea how I could clean it without destroying it. It's an optical mouse so there is no way in that thing at all. Without breaking it that is.

Grr. Thanks for the help guys. I guess I might need to buy a new one if I don't think of anything else to try. It's just silly though because I got this one as a gift probably last christmas. My old ball style mouse kept not working so I got this one which is now dying. Things should last more than a year! Damn you disposable culture!
