Bag, pouch, thing.

Postby Nachos » Sun Feb 12, 11:39 2012

So, I've been sewing for a while, but never actually made anything like a bag before, or a pouch, whatever it is. I've made an apron, several circle skirts and a few toys. Yesterday I finally dragged myself out of feeling down to meet with a friend where she and I had a sewing session and she taught me how to make this. The resulting product is something I am very proud of! Not quite sure what to use it for, but whatever, the making is the fun part :)

P.S. It stands!

Cool! I really love the fabric.
What was once before you - an exciting, mysterious future - is now behind you. Lived; understood; disappointing. You realize you are not special. You have struggled into existence, and are now slipping silently out of it. This is everyone's experience. Every single one. The specifics hardly matter. Everyone's everyone.

That's so cute! Those kinds of pouches are so useful too. I have a couple now of different sizes from either friends who made them or the rare find at a cheap boutique. Yours looks really well made. If you enjoy making those maybe you should consider selling on etsy. One of my friends who made me a pokemon pouch like that sells hers on etsy for cheap and brings in extra cash that way.

Thats' nice!

Hard to tell from a pic, but if it was maybe an inch wider or deeper my ereader would fit nicely in there.(hint, hint).

Anyway, things like that sell, do you plan to etsy it?

Give me your ereader measurements and I shall make you one!

I do have an etsy store, with nothing in it. My sister and I co-own it but we just haven't been making as many things recently. She takes bottle caps and turns them into earrings and I make all sorts of things, but crafty wise my time is now devoted to making things for friends for weddings and birthdays.

but... but... thou shalt not compete against spacefem's etsy shop full of zipper pouches!

lol just kidding. more the merrier. And I must admit making zipper pouches is REALLY FUN, and addicting since I found out I could buy bulk zippers on etsy for like fifty cents.

I wish I had a sewing machine... I only really have the chance to sew when I'm at my mom's house and can use hers. I'd love to be able to make stuff like this!

spacefem, where do you find the fabric you use for all your stuff on etsy?

I never answered this, I am a slacker.

It's a combination of the clearance shelves at joanns and special orders from fabric.com. as a result, all my fabric is either $2 a yard or $10, without a whole lot in between.

I've been really liking Craftsy lately- they have a number of patterns, both free and paid, and a lot of cool classes that are a little pricey, but go on sale often. I grabbed the "Sew Retro bombshell dress" class when it went on sale a while back, and am definitely looking forward going through that class.

They have a bunch of free patterns. The popular ones can be found here: http://www.craftsy.com/patterns/sewing/?free=true. There are a few pouch-type patterns just on the front page, and I know there have to be more. (EDIT: aaaand one free zipper pouch pattern!)

I also enjoy BurdaStyle, but while they have some accessory-type patterns, mostly they're for clothing.

^I've been reading the blog of the person who did the bombshell dress class for a while and while it's somewhat lacking on the sewing front these days, she's super cool and I will probably buy her book when it comes out.
