I've lurked long enough - time to say hi!

Postby octarineoboe » Mon May 28, 21:42 2012

Hi spacefemmers! I'm a longtime lurker who finally decided to join. It'll be a change to join in instead of just reading, but I'm looking forward to it. Here's me according to your what-to-say recommendation.
Your name: octarineoboe
Age: 21
Preferred pronoun(eg. he, she, ze, they, etc): she
Occupation/Potential Occupation: currently unemployed, ideally I want to go into public history (ie museums)
Educational Status: just graduated with a BA!
Notable Hobbies: swing dancing. Also playing the oboe, but I'm not sure if that counts as a "hobby" considering it was one of my majors and definitely felt like work for a lot of the past four years. But it's definitely a thing that I do.
Favorite Website/Blog: I'm currently following both the Wheel of Time Re-read and the Song of Ice and Fire Read on tor.com
Favorite color: turquoise
Favorite food: chocolate covered strawberries
If you are wearing pants, please describe them: black pajama pants with purple and white dots.
What brought you to spacefem/how'd you find us? I think it was a link to one of the quizzes. Like I said, I've been lurking for years, so I'm not totally sure how I first got here.
Did you find the FAQ link? Yes.

Welcome. I too like octarine.

I have once heard the oboe played so well its sound still sticks with me to this day.
Global warming is intricately tied to the decline in the pirate population. As the pirate population goes down, the average global temperature goes up. Ergo, pirates are cool, and we need more pirates. :pirate: ARRR!

Only once? That's disappointing.

And I'm glad someone got the octarine reference!

Well, rarely does any instrument have that exceptional of a performance. And I do think it's harder for the oboe as well to do so.

Welcome to the board!

I had some great chocolate covered strawberries a couple of days ago. Is this something that you make yourself, or is it the sort of thing that you gravitate towards in a table of desserts?

Sonic - both! I like strawberries however I can get them. That being said I think homemade ones are usually better because commercially made chocolate-covered strawberries tend to use huge berries that turn out to be mostly empty space inside.
