I've joined a 'cycle to work' scheme, which has enabled me to get a greatly discounted (and very snazzy) bicycle. Its got decent brakes, and front suspension, and really huge wheels! And I've got a purple helmet! And whilst I won't be cycling to work quite yet (15 miles each way is a bit much at the moment), it has already saved 18 miles of car hourneys (though to be fair I probably wouldn't have done all those journeys if i had been driving- I'm very conscious of gas usage!).
But yay, bicycle! I hope to use it to pick up boyfriend from work and go between our respective homes (which are only 2 miles apart but I don't always have time to walk), go to Spanish lessons (again only about 2 miles but i don't have time to get home from work and walk there), and if I ever get t move house I will indeed cycle to work (about 3 miles).
Amusingly at the cycle shop the salesman spent AGES trying to sell me a bike-maintenance program (for only £29.99 a year!), despite my 'I can probably fix it myself, thanks', until I got annoyed, 'I can remove the head from a peogout engine in 6 minutes and change my own car head gasket, I don't think I'll have a problem with a damn bicycle'. Salesmen are funny.
