If it's people I like, I just tough it out with conversation or something. If not, I just go home or play games on my phone. Although sometimes I forget my manners or get carried away fact checking stuff and keep my phone out anyways...

I bring the fun. I can come up with games, conversational topics, and I'm known to always have a deck of cards on me.

If that doesn't work or is frowned upon, I turn to the environment. Books? I read them. Household items? I stack them. Pets? I also stack them.

I try and make lots of conversation with everyone.

I try and get conversation going and if that fails I bring out the games. I also nag people who are on their phones bringing down the energy. *cough*Nech*cough* :P

I'd go stand behind Sonic. If anyone ever forced me to go to a party, I mean. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it.

See the real thing is I just don't go to boring parties. I go to parties where there are friends and good food and ... that's not boring.

^ I read "boring parties" as "obligatory gatherings with people I know less well," like a a work party or a wedding reception where I don't know most of the other guests. Those may end up being great, but I've had some pretty awkward ones.

I try to catch all the words I understand and remember them to ask spouse and find out how off I was later. I really suspect they wouldn't be boring if I could follow along. When that gets to be too much, go outside and cry.

alcohol and pets, usually. I try not to go to parties I think will be boring, but I've also found that many parties which start out boring wind up being really fun - including my housemates' party last weekend, which would've been difficult to leave because 1. I live here and 2. the aforementioned alcohol strategy. So I try to stick it out for a while in case things pick up.

I second the playing with pets thing (if no pets, kids may sometimes suffice). I'll also try to strike up a one on one conversation (which I'm much better at than groups) or ask if I can help out with whatever's going on in the kitchen. If all else fails, hang out by the snacks.

I'll try to be the one to make it interesting: if you see other bored people, do crazy/stupid/unexpected stuff (without anyone coming to harm), find common ground with people, chat about interesting topics - hobbies, work, family, how you got to know the person who invited you, etc.

If there is nothing to do, I would go, even if it is formal. If the party is too important to just go or if my partner is having fun, I'll stay and find something that at least I don't find boring...

Leave party for a bit to grab a drink and I'll go back to party after.

I avoid parties whenever possible. If I am at one and get bored, I leave. I'm generally only at these gatherings with friends though, so don't tend to be in this situation.

hmm, I'm surprised no one said anything about eating food. That was the first thing that came to mind for me...that, or try to start a game if the host has any.
