what suits on tuesday

Postby k7fcb » Thu Jul 10, 16:15 2008

Every day, it is impossible to avoid an instance where somebody asks, "hey, you have an accent, don't you?" This is probably because when I see an wh word, such as who, where, white, or why, I pronounce the 'h'. When I say "Today is Tuesday", the Tuesday comes out as "te use day". Any ue sound, long o sound, or wh sound comes out as written, and I consider that just articulating properly. So, I was wondering - how do you pronouce these words?
Pour que tout soit consommé, pour que je me sente moins seul, il me restait à souhaiter qu'il y ait beaucoup de spectateurs le jour de mon exécution et qu'ils m'accueillent avec des cris de haine.

The wh sound is breathier than a w sound. I pronounce tuesday like tyoozday I suppose. Is that what's meant by te use day?
If I bang my head against a brick wall five times and get five lumps, why am I surprised when I bang it a sixth time and get a sixth lump?

Where do you live? I live in DC and I talk like a weird Midwest/New England amalgam (my mom and dad are one of each) so I say, for example, "uawtomobile" like a Bostonian and other stuff like a midwesterner. Slightly. More new england than midwest, my dad talks all smart.

I second.

Yay! Australia!

Sometimes, if I'm feeling particularly strange, I say Tuesdee (as in tyoozdee), or Satdee, Sundee, etc.

Um, yeah.

I say [tʃuz.deɪ] and [wɔt]. I say [tjuːn] (or [tuːn] in "iTunes") and not [tʃuːn] for "tune" though.

That's just the more traditional way, isn't it? I've read somewhere that pronouncing it as "day" came from spelling pronunciation.

I'm finding it pretty hard to figure out what people mean by it being typed out. I say toosday though. I think I just say what. lol.
