The petition I had first started here had failed to obtain enough votes, a new one has taken off to a good start but needs more support.https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petiti ... n/kVhNfHQ1
This petition would benefit the lives of many in generations to come. We have a rampant rape problem in the United States that effects all age categories. The above petition is requesting the Obama Administration to provide grants for schools willing to introduce curriculum or host events that teach about sexual assault, consent, and resources for survivors in the classroom. This benefits both the survivors of sexual assault (15% of rape victims are under 12, and they need to know how to get help), but also try and reduce the number of sexual assaults (23.6 million rape victims in the United States).
The recent Steubenville rape case highlighted the cultural misunderstandings about sexual assault, and showed how deeply this is an issue. If we can educate more people about sexual assault, we can try shaping changing the cultural attitudes on this problem.
