Re: So am I a Damnable Bastard?

I think that I would say, no, you're not a damnable bastard. I can relate to not showing a lot of emotion and not having any desire to really. Like spacefem, I too am not a hugger, and my sister hugs me just because she knows how much I hate it (and she's a crazy hugger social butterfly). I recently...

Re: How long would you have lived without modern medicine?

I'd probably be alive but my asthma and allergies might pose a lot of discomfort. They might also kill me, but I can't tell if it's serious enough really.

My husband would be so incredibly dead so many times over, that much I do know.

It's okay everyone, I found the best description of what is going on with the wage gap:

Re: Is the wage gap issue no-longer clear cut?

Which brings me to FernGully's post - I don't see the problem with that scenario, so long as a guy who chooses to take a year off to spend time with his bebeh is treated the same way. That guys may not typically do that hardly seems relevant considering that a value of any worker in any workplace i...

Re: Is the wage gap issue no-longer clear cut?

I'm not sure if this takes things too far off topic, but certainly where I work it's no longer as much about "we do the same job but a guy makes more" and instead is: You chose to take a year off (or more) to have a bebeh, and now a guy you were on par with is much higher up, higher paid, and is con...

Re: Women in Tech Experiences

I'm new on this forum, and I'm exploring the feminist perspective in order to get a better understanding of... well... the world and the people in it. I must say, this thread just struck me as so overwhelmingly positive, that it is a real refresher from a lot of what I have been reading. To be hone...

Women in Tech Experiences

http://juliepagano.tumblr.com/post/46206589124/my-experiences-in-tech-death-by-1000-paper-cuts I recently read this above post, written by a woman who is in engineering. It details her experiences living and working in "tech" and all the crap that people have put her through because she's a woman in...

Re: Having sex with someone unconscious is rape (TW)

(via Deanimal) This article is really interesting (and heartbreaking). It's a high school teacher whose students brought up the Steubenville case and how she reacted to it. “How can she be raped?” they asked, “She wasn’t awake to say no.” These words out of a full fledged adult would have made me f...

Re: when do you answer your phone?

Basically never. You probably shouldn't try to get in touch with me via the phone. I do not enjoy talking on the phone, and I only answer it if I feel like I really really have to.

I don't have a home phone and it affects my credit rating.

Re: Having sex with someone unconscious is rape (TW)

I just wanted to add this Wordpress article I came across via Facebook: http://rantagainsttherandom.wordpress.com/2013/03/19/so-youre-tired-of-hearing-about-rape-culture/ In that post is a compilation of some of the things people were saying on social media/etc. about the Steubenville case. I had ac...

Re: Name this baby

My personal favorite from the list is Erin. I don't know precisely why; I tend to pick names based on people I know and like who have those names, and I've ordinarily liked the Erins I know. Maybe because I'm an Erin and I'm amazing. I didn't even pick Erin because I liked Cora better and I didn't ...

I selected the noble choice of pen, printed. Sometimes I use pencil if my work accidentally orders really fancy pencils.

I write in cursive when I send my grandmother letters. It is legible only to her.

I came here just to post the CBC video on this! Edit was light years ahead of me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vOCnZOcr8w I find it upsetting that this kind of comment was made and the officer is only forced to apologize after shit hit the fan, then the TP get their female officers to say that th...

Maybe Torontonians really like Bon Jovi?

I actually think they just hate me. Maybe I should punch them all in the face.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y244/karyhatessmartfood/Bon_Jovi_JS51808.jpg Okay that's not me - but I got a haircut and someone at work told me I look like Bon Jovi-esque. THAT IS NOT A COMPLIMENT. My close friend is a hair dressing student, and she needs human subjects to practice her craft, so...

Seems like that kind of thing would be really hazardous to your health, how are they allowed to make that crap? It's like they've got a whole warehouse of them and they aren't moving (because no one wants them) so their solution was "let's just make 'fresh scent' font size 1 and trick people into bu...

Re: There's a hole in this bucket.

I have my ears pierced (just one in each ear). My mom did that when I was like 3 months old so I guess I'm pretty accustomed to it. I once considered getting an anti-eyebrow piercing but I would never have actually gone through with it and my body would have rejected that pretty quickly anyhow.

Re: if you could bring back any TV show, what would it be?

I'm going to agree with: Futurama (maybe with the good voice actors though), Clone High (god I love Clone High, MTV just wasn't ready for it), Rocko's Modern Life. In general, cartoons wise or fantastic beyond the first-imagined fan base years. Also, Deadwood and Rome. I don't care how expensive the...
