Re: What is the optimal amount of art to have in your home?

I'd say more than 50% art, some rooms in my house are full to bursting with art. Mostly prints and paintings I have purchased.

Oh I'm so sorry :( *hugs*

And, though we never tested this with any axes, I concur that Nachos is not an axe murderer. Me neither, last time I checked.

Yes, every Tuesday evening. Iyengar yoga. I enjoy it, but getting there on bus takes like 2 hours and really annoys me.

Re: Opening an online shop

Actually writing it yourself is very hard work, there's laws in many countries about the requirements and you could be subject to things like audits. I'd use paypal (really easy, free) or something like worldpay or sagepay. People using your shop know these and trust them, and they're pretty easy to...

Re: females in IT

I'm a software developer (web mostly these days, C#, ASP.NET). I am the only female in my department! Though there are only 8 of us. In my degree there were 3 females out of 200 students.. so it is an improvement on that.

Re: Financial abortion

Men are allowed to choose what to do with their bodies, they could not have sex in the first place then unwanted pregnancies wouldn't be a problem- but that is trivialising somewhat. Pregnancy is a major thing, major changes and risks to the woman's body. The choice of whether to abort should be her...

Re: how are your teeth?

Awful, I have more fillings than teeth. All my own fault from snacking on sweets all day as a kid, but somewhat difficult to fix now. I currently have major toothache too, went Scuba diving- compressed air from down deep gets under your fillings and things really easily, then when you come up that a...

Re: Do you go to farmers markets?

No.. there isn't one near here. The further away one I have been to occasionally is really expensive as it is really a tourist trap. I go to farm shops sometimes though- they're a bit far away to go to all the time though. I live in an area full of discount supermarkets.. and not really anything else.

Re: Do you love your company?

My company is ok, they really do try to help people so that's quite impressive. Working there is rather annoying, they're 'not a software development house' so ignore all best practice and expert advice, which is challenging for the software developers. My coworkers are awesome though.

Re: kids' obsessions

I don't remember my own obsessions, but I do remember my sister (younger by 4 years) watching Disneys Pocahontas several times a day for about a year. She then moved onto watching Space Jam.. as many times a day as she could. I was a bit manic about dinosaurs for a few years! And Star Wars (but I wa...

I use 'Partner', mostly as we're not married, and it feels more long term than 'boyfriend'. I also use 'Other Half' quite frequently.

I make glass beads, like these:

Or these:

I find sitting at the blowtorch and melting things very relaxing. I do nothing with anything I make these days, everyone knows what they're getting for xmas though!

Re: self-employed

I attempted to support myself making glass lampwork beads- making the beads was the easy part, but selling them was hard! Setting up a business involved a lot of red tape, and money (in the UK). Before actually being a a business I'd made all my jewellery to be silver or sterling silver- but never h...

The ethical minefield that is feeding kittens

So I have two kittens, they are 14 weeks old and called Diefenbaker and Omar (bonus points if you can guess where the names come from). http://oozamaflips.net/dev/images/tb425.JPG http://oozamaflips.net/dev/images/tb426.JPG At first they ate 'standard' branded food, but this only has 4% meat in it a...

Re: hedgehogs (not a metaphor)

This is Mrs Hedgehog, who lives in my garden: http://oozamaflips.net/dev/images/422.JPG the other day she got tangled up in some poultry netting (I swear hedgehogs have like a heat-seeking capability to find all possible netting and get stuck in it), and had to go to the vets for some stitches. But ...

I have... but does it make sense that it seems weird to ask the NHS for anything more? We ended up calling emergency doctors and things last night, as poor Partner got stuck on the floor for 6 hours and couldn't get up (or lie down!) and was in agony. At 2pm they have just arrived! It isn't as if me...

I think I've always spent the most time in Ranting on this forum.. but I've been doing much better the past 6 years or so! Re: Are you poor?

No, not at the moment. I earn a decent amount, which is handy as my Partner can't work anymore. It isn't that I earn lots, it is just that I don't spend very much- my outgoings are small: teeny mortgage, teeny bills (heat the house mainly with wood- and it's free!), no phone contract, cheapest car e...

I'm a computer programmer- wouldn't say the media description of my job was very accurate at all! Not a hacker, don't sit in the dark, don't play video games. I spend my day making websites function so that they save people in the company time, I mostly turn paperwork into electronic processes. Ther...

A rainbow golf umbrella, some reels of wire (we cashed this in for scrap!), a dart board, a creepy ET money-bank.

We also found a picture of a dinosaur on one of the walls- under the wallpaper:
