Re: what's the last movie you saw?

If you want a cry (the good kind), I just saw the film Lion (Dev Patel, Rooney Mara). It's based on the book The Long Way Home by a fellow Tasmanian/friend of a friend of mine who was separated from his family in India and then adopted by a Tasmanian at a young age, who then tries to piece together ...

Re: What's a fashion you don't like right now?

Shirts and dresses with cut-outs. Clothes with holes in them??? Especially holes that always seems to perfectly line up with my fat rolls??? And somewhat in the same vein, shirts where the back isn't closed. Like, it'll be open from the collar and the two sides kind of overlap but really you're jus...

Fucking WASPS and BEES. I wasn't afraid of bees until I got stung on the eyelid last year. Little kamikaze jerks!

Also maybe cows, if I'm near them. Which is not often.

Re: what's the last movie you saw?

Tangerine is an excellent film about the friendship of two trans women in street based sex work in LA, it's funny and emotional and raw. Divines is a beautiful, powerful french film - two girls in a Paris ghetto trying to make money and get out, with some romance, social commentary and explosions th...

Re: how often do you go to the ocean?

All the time! I mean not that much in winter but at the moment at least once a fortnight. I'm especially fond of going to the beach at night if it's been a really hot day - there's less burning and fewer people.

I was pretty tipsy when I had a couple drinks straight after work but by the time I got to my friend's place after going home and eating dinner I was fine. Only had a couple more drinks whilst playing cards against humanity and jenga.

Mine is being annoying. I have a mirena so I basically never have periods (usually maybe 2 days of spotting once a year) but I've had 2 lots of spotting in the past 2 months. Stupid uterus.

I used to go semi-regularly but I keep getting piercings/tattoos and you can't donate for 6 months after a piercing or a year after a tattoo. Last time I tried I almost fainted so I'm not sure if I'll try again.

I'm pretty sure I'm not actively lying to anyone at present. That doesn't mean I haven't before or I won't again, just right now I think I'm being pretty honest all 'round. :)

Re: do you pick out the cashews?

Nuts I will chow down on always: almonds, cashews, peanuts, pistachios. Nuts I only really like in baked goods: walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, macadamias. I guess we either don't have filberts in Australia or they're called something different? Either way I don't actually know what they are. I'm also ...

Re: your low ticket dream

There's a whole lot of things that you can either only buy online if you live in the US, or if you spend as much as the item is worth on postage or freight forwarding. I would buy all of those things. Also taxis. I would get so many taxis instead of public transport (although maybe if I were super r...

28 - extra sleeping time. Or extra 'getting stuff done outside of work hours whilst still getting enough' sleep time.

Re: Sydney Seige - media coverage etc

I didn't hear about any hate speech towards Muslim Australians or anything that #illridewithyou was a direct response to. Were there anti-Islamic sentiments being voiced in the immediate aftermath, or was it a preemptive thing based on other first world countries' (coughUSAcough) history of increas...

Sydney Seige - media coverage etc

So I don't know if this has reached news outlets outside of the country but there was a hostage situation in a Sydney cafe yesterday which ended last night with the death of the gunman and 2 hostages. The facts are pretty limited. The news coverage however was awful - live coverage, conjecture, scar...

Re: Why do women have to take their husband's last name?

I was just thinking about this yesterday - my father was sometimes violent when I was a teenager and we still have a strained relationship, yet I have his name. So I don't share a name with the one parent who I do have a good relationship with because she has her husband's name and I have my father'...

Re: So what are you reading now?

So I tend to be reading multiple books at the same time - I've been working my way through Maya Angelou's autobiographies (I've read 5 of 7), and I'm currently reading The Naked Lunch by William S Burroughs and Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Oh and I've been reading bits and pieces of The Second Sex but...

Parasaurolophus. I've always liked crested birds too, but I just found out that birds did not evolve from this kind of dinosaur. Oh my god I had a toy parasaurolophus when I was a kid (and I can never remember the name of it so thank you!) and it was my favourite toy ever. It was hard and plastic a...

Re: What happened when you admitted having privilege?

I've been vaguely aware of my privilege for a long time now (white, middle class, mostly straight etc) but the first time I've really been confronted with it was when I started dating my now girlfriend (who identifies as gay) - I made a lot of faux pas at the start. I would say things based on my he...

Does it really matter wears that he wore it at a news conference for his space exploration? Everything has a stigma attached in regards to gender.
