if you think in electrical terms as all is electromagnetism https://media3.giphy.com/media/11FiDF2fuOujPG/giphy.gif There's the bullshit (12 year old me would say: what about the three other fundamental forces?), followed closely by initiating an analogy ("acts like") and then insisting it be taken...

Re: Does anyone wonder?

I think about people from my past a lot. I've never been sure whether I think about that more than other people. Earlier this week I was trying to find out whether my first-year-undergrad Calculus instructor was still alive. A Google search turned up no obituary, and the most recent news about him i...

I keep two separate emergency kits (snacks + blanket + tool set + bandages + reflectors + flashlight + other items), jumper cables, my spare tire, a tire jack, a casserole dish, a book (Paradise Lost), a blue birthday present bag, and a few other items.

I own a few. They've been packed away, but this is the first winter in a while where I may need them.

Re: A Question, but sort of a rant: My New Thoughts of Being Apolitical

I don't think withdrawing from political discussions is a solution. First, I'll point out that doxing is a silencing tactic. It is designed to make people afraid to speak out or engage in public dialogue. This silence can happen in several ways. For prominent feminists who were doxxed over the last ...

^ In other words, Luke wasn't the hero you wanted him to be. You're in the Kylo-position. You don't like being manipulated.

Whereas I didn't feel manipulated. That was surprising, and I went with it.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (spoilers)

^ I'll just say that I find it interesting how radically people's interpretations of Luke, his fear of Kylo, and his death can differ. Without just saying "I'm right, you're wrong," I think it amounts to competing headcanons, or these large-scale decisions about character and consistency that we mak...

Re: Teaching men how to find "the One"

I did the gender-flipping because, for me, it highlights points where the writer or reader might believe that women and men are different. For instance, perhaps you wouldn't describe women in so-and-so a way ("Also women/men have a tendancy to fall in lpve with the first man/woman nice enough to giv...

Presented without further comment: an algorithmically regendered version of the above. After reading ASimpleWoman's posts in her migtow marraige topic, the idea for this topic came to me. I have given advice to a few women on men. Usually to women who I feel actually need it or ask for it. Mind you ...

Re: MGTOW: Marriage

Holy generalizations! For the purposes of counterillustration, I've gone far longer than 2 weeks without sex. None of what was described happened - no cheating, no anguish. It wasn't ideal, but that's what an extended illness does. If I had a problem with lack of fulfillment, I could talk with my pa...

Re: My Favourite Joke

That's really cute. I'll keep that mug (or at least the pun) in mind. Freud was eating dinner at a seafood place with a few friends. He ordered what he thought was a chowder made from conch meat. However, Freud's taste buds made him think it was clam instead, so he asked the server to send it back f...

Working class white people, if we want to be more precise, and even then not all of them. Saying the "working class" as if they all vote the same way is a particular nitpick of mine. Roseanne's politics are a disappointment. That said, I'll have to wait and see if the show actually grapples the "pol...

Re: MGTOW: Introduction

These comments seem substantially similar to the 12th century writer Andreas Capellanus, who dressed his warnings against love in similar misogyny or woman-hating. But it seems that there is still another reason why we should avoid love. The man who is in love is bound in a hard kind of slavery and ...
