Re: Which of these should I be most stressed about?

Thanks. Most of my week has been good, but Wednesday had so many weird events, and in addition to that there's the constant undercurrent of tension that came out as I was making the poll.

Nah. My hammer and I are even. I pay it back in compliments, like "You hit the nail on the head" and "I look forward to Hammer Time."

Re: Sad mouth

Shit, I'm sorry you're going through that. Tooth pain is the worst, and the systemic problems that come with getting dental insurance also suck. And even though I regularly brush I'm bracing myself for eventually needing more work because I've been terrible about actually going to the dentist. :( On...

I hear you and cosign what rowan says. (Hope it gets better - jobs like that suck - could a therapist help?) I'll just add that I've been experiencing the softball team problem with a gaming group of mine. I'm now an hour drive away and far busier, so biweekly gaming is a stretch with this group. Me...

Re: Who owes you money?

George owes me $25 for the Dreamcast I sold him, and his brother still owes me money for the games he borrowed and then lost. Not. Cool.

Re: Taya Kyle

I've been thinking of this issue in terms of the scale of response in relation to how someone is actually affected. So if I'm setting out with that as a pattern: 1. Response : Colin Kaepernick at first sits and then kneels during the national anthem in protest of specific harms. How is someone affec...

Yes! I knew how to pronounce your name correctly. I studied a fair bit of Ancient Greece, and it's finally paying off.

Anyway, welcome! The past few weeks have been *busy*, but I do get around to posting. :D

Two slices of bread.

Yes, I ate peanut butter and nothing else sandwiches as a kid. I was a weird one. These days, I'll go with jelly or Nutella.

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

The comparison becomes no less flimsy when you repeat it. Land is not a body; a born slave is not a fetus. The connecting similarity does not hold if you disagree about the status of a fetus or a body. Also, the sexism in being anti-choice is still there. You're taking a question with no clear answe...

I will sing any song picked by an audience. If I know it, I will reasonably approximate the vocals. If I don't know it, I will make up what seems in my mind like a suitable beat.

I have an electric drill. I grew up around power tools and took a shop class, but this is the first time in a long time that I'll even have to use a mower, so I've been away from it for some time.

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

In a world where only women have arms, why is it okay for a ban on assault to cover a ban on punching (a rule that is only applicable to women who who have arms)? And in a world where only women can bear children, why is it not okay for a ban on murder to cover a ban on abortion (a rule that is onl...

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

If you create a policy that knowingly affects one sex and not the other, then it has everything to do with sex. It may or may not strictly be sexist, but it's definitely related to sex in effect. "Pro-life" is not a stance nature takes, and so it is not nature that risks being sexist here, but whoev...
