Re: Which is the best cycle?

So wait, isn't a quadcycle a four-wheeled vehicle driven by human power?

Wouldn't that be two bicycles tied together? Whereas a septcycle would be two bicycles tied to a tricycle center?

^ No, thanks for tagging that. I didn't originally reply because I felt like I remembered this discussion before, and I didn't want to have to rehash the same replies.

Welcome to the board!

At first I thought your favorite food was elephant and your favorite animal was king crab. I'm glad I read that wrong.

Re: terrible but fun

I don't have a good answer. I've thought about this for 20 minutes. The closest I've come is SimCity. Any of them. I am able to build a competent town, but I always manage to mess it up. I end up with abandoned houses, a budget that's out of wack, traffic issues, trash piling up everywhere, low valu...

Re: How do you say gif?

I used to say "jif" but then I spent enough time around nerds who were obnoxious about it that I use the hard g about half the time now. A related question would be whether either side has more obnoxious people. Like, as a [jif] person, I like to banter about it, and I find the "jraffic" argument k...

Re: Sleep for babies after 6 months

Thank you for the stories. I try not to get caught up in comparisons, but it's so hard when someone else is like, "Oh yeah, they're sleeping through the night after six months, no problem!" and we're nudging each other when it's our turn to get up at night almost every night. Did I do something wron...

How do you say gif?

I've long been curious about the answer to this. Personally, I say [jif], but I'm happy to entertain reasons why I am right or why I have made a critical error in my life path.

Sleep for babies after 6 months

What worked for you? The baby we have, at over 6 months, is pretty chill in most respects. He is happy during the day, he doesn't seem apprehensive at new situations, and while he has started to exhibit some separation anxiety, it's not bad: he's happy to be handed off to other family members or fri...

Chocolate chips make an optimal waffle.

I would imagine chicken and waffles being a savory option.

God, I feel like that theme is begging to lead to national stereotypes. Off the top of my head, you could go espresso, opera, fine art, gelato, Spaghetti westerns, the Borgias (or similar items), Roman items, sauces, sausage, Papal items, pine nuts, canal boats, olive oil, and a fair number of Shake...

We may sign up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which mails a book a month to kids until they reach kindergarten. I know we've also floated the idea of getting a magazine subscription, but we really don't know what to get.

I'm pretty tired of this, which is why I didn't engage you before, Skeezy. I'll make one comment to point out why. People will do anything for money. Not saying some of those cases aren't legit. Im just saying people do shitty things. Most of these get settled by the way. So they wouldnt make it int...

Re: False Accusations

mels, those are some good sources. The 2017 article made me think of two points. First, if we're studying using FBI crime data, then we're studying "unfounded accusations," which could be either "false" or "baseless." Any estimate of confirmed false allegations based on federal data will therefore (...

Re: what's your favorite website?

^ You have assumed the rate is a lot higher without evidence. Your assumption comes from a false equivalency - that a trash site's estimate is equivalent to peer-reviewed research, such that a discrepancy between the two might be somewhere between the trash estimate and an estimate generated from a ...

Re: what's your favorite website?

You're committing a kind of argument from ignorance. You're saying that the relatively reliable stats Enigma linked to can't be trusted (without evidence or statistical knowledge of your own), but then you're injecting your assumptions (which are even less credible) of what you think the rate of fal...

Re: What games have you played lately?

I've been playing Dragon Quest XI for about two months. I'm nearing the end of the "second act" of the game. I've heard there are three. This is certainly my favorite Dragon Quest game. These are old-school RPGs, with turn-based combat and lots of story and NPC dialogue. Lots of minigames - the casi...

Re: Can you sing on key?

Whenever I sing, usually for some holiday event, someone comments that I have a good voice. My musical training was exclusively through music classes in elementary and middle school, so on a good day I can identify notes on a sheet and ding them out on a piano. So I don't know if I'm in key.

I'd have actually put up the mirror in my guest bathroom. We're renting, and the situation has been otherwise good (prompt care for A/C and other maintenance requests), but it's so weird to move in and find the guest bathroom mirror on the living room floor.

Awesome gallery link, Nachos. :D I remember attending a convention panel where Kepler was being discussed. It hadn't been launched yet. What I love: how fine the evidence is. Re: ‘Transgender’ Could Be Defined Out of Existence Under Trump Administration

^ It boggles my mind how blatantly someone can speak on behalf of "science" or "objectivity" while wilfully denying the science and the existence of transgender people, climate change, evolution, and a long list of other things.
