Re: Are you making car payments?

I rent when I need a car… so not really car payments (and cheaper, too, with my use frequency and absence of car maintenance expenses).

My son's digital watch, the oven, smoke and CO detectors… and that might be it. We avoid things that beep in our household.

Re: Hello!

Hallo! Back in the day I studied Communication Studies at Concordia in Montréal. Now I'm a government statistician but the liberal education, critical thinking and teamwork skills I learned there are still really useful.

I hope the community here makes for a good final essay ;)

I've been on a Codenames kick lately — the word, picture and two-player versions with various people. That and pick-up Magic, Carcassonne, Dominion and Ticket to Ride with my son.

Re: Unplanned, polyamorous pregnancy situation

That does seem like a difficult situation, Nedra. I'm not clear on who knows what at this point… but I think once you have caught your breath it would probably be good to work out what your best-case outcomes are and to find out those of your partners. Maybe they overlap! I would let them know if th...

Re: Kale: I'm doing it wrong.

When I steam kale, I'm also heating up a bit of olive oil (to cover the bottom of a small pot) with any of: coarse salt, garlic, cumin, turmeric, fenugreek and/or black pepper steeping in it, then pour the hot oil over the steamed kale and toss. It counteracts the bitter nicely and adds interest.

Re: what is your purpose?

I go for purposes of opportunity… but sometimes it's to honour the gods, or serve HM the Queen by serving Canadians, or equip my kids to take their places in the world, or combat evil by picking up trash or giving to good causes.

Re: About this forum + suggest a question!

My suggestion is counter intuitive to the purpose of this thread, but at the same time it's a suggestion... Those threads/topics/issues in the FAQ, instead of being explained by somebody with authority in a few lines, should be open to discussion, to that I add that moderation of the FAQ should be ...

Re: cosleeping

We're on #3 and have had a bed cosleep to sidecar (a toddler bed between our bed and the wall) to mattress on the floor in the kids' room progression. Easy feeding and calming, we're light sleepers on a firm mattress with no other risk factors so suffocation is unlikely… it has it's ups and downs; n...

Re: How do I find a good Math teacher?

Study groups are great — also, the skills of hashing out a problem with your peers that study groups can encourage have been more useful than the content of some of my math courses now that I'm a working statistician. If you can find a few focused classmates and spend a few mornings with problems an...

Re: Pregnancy Books

In Quebec, the public health agency publishes a book called From Tiny Tot to Toddler ( http://www.inspq.qc.ca/tinytot/ ) — it's like an extra-thick car manual in shape and has a broad range of reference material and advice, roughly from positive pregnancy test to age two. They do their best to get a...

Button-up shirt in stripes or some jewel-tone colour, khakis or slacks, colourful socks, an air-force surplus sweater and a tie or bow tie if it's Tuesday.
