Re: What's your story about a time when you made it through a really stressful work/school situation?

Ugh spoon I am so with you. This is my last semester of my master’s degree and i have often felt like I’ve spent two years begging for feedback and structure from my advisor and getting none (I also had a huge breakup in the middle and am convinced I might have been done a YEAR AGO otherwise, but it...

Re: What is your favorite sentence that exemplifies a weird language feature?

the buffalo sentence drives me nuts because i don't register buffalo as being a verb. I know it CAN be, officially, but I've only ever seen it in this example sentence so it just does not compute. I think "up with which we will not put" is my favorite because it's so stuffy. And I like "we saw her d...

Re: what's the last movie you saw?

I saw A Wrinkle in Time a few weeks ago. I mostly loved it, although of course I had some "that's not how it was in the BOOK" feelings.

Re: Job Decisions

Just want to add to the "you're not too old for grad school" anecdata - people in my program are all sorts of ages, and really very few started right out of college (in fact, when I worked in the department right out of college, literally all of the grad students were older than me. One person had g...

Re: Feminist Therapy

I haven't explicitly asked, but I can't imagine myself getting along with a therapist who wasn't a feminist. My ex and I went to therapy before we broke up, and the first person we tried was a terrible fit for us, partly because he seemed to have really strict ideas about gender roles (and I don't k...

302 miles, according to the app. I'm about 7-8 miles to a Great Lake though, so I can go to a sort-of beach pretty easily.

Re: light hearted bitch-post.

fuck periods indeed, sigh. my light-hearted bitching is about people who are too loud in the library, eg, all of them, by existing, but also this one dude was ON THE PHONE for like half an hour, which was absurd. BUT it is light-hearted because despite my extreme annoyance, I turned my music up way ...

With great difficulty. It is really hard. My real advice is to read Ask A Manager , she has real advice. But that can sometimes get overwhelming, too! edited to add: Actually I do have one piece of advice. The goal of the cover letter is to get you an interview. You can stick to a relatively small v...

The most striking part of this article to me was - well, all of it - but especially this quote from a researcher: While women imagined the low end to include the potential for extremely negative feelings and the potential for pain, men imagined the low end to represent the potential for less satisfy...

I’m gonna die in the first round, much easier than dealing with the aftermath. I mean it’s not an apocalypse if most people don’t die anyway, im helping out the narrative here.

I’ve been obsessed with Mika’s album “The Origin Of Love.” It’s not new but I only just got it from the library and it’s so great, bright and poppy and just a little weird. I especially love “Popular Song” which remixes “Popular” from wicked in a way that hits all of my musical theater nerd and genr...

Re: Do you finish every book?

I finish most, but not all. I did just slog through one that I hated, but that was for school. I've definitely become less of a completionist as I've gotten older and realized just how much STUFF is out there.
