Save a kitty?

Some people here are aware of my current situation with my kitty, Oslo. I was encouraged to start up a crowdfunding project and now that we've gotten past the tests and uncertainties to a concrete plan and a fairly tight estimate, I can do that. Thanks for the encouragement and support you guys have...

Re: The nightmare returns

Thanks for the support, guys. Oslo has been to the vet and I am giving him buprenorphine and alprazolam twice daily in addition to putting him back on a strict regimen of his prescription food, mostly dry with just enough wet mixed in to hold it together. He's lost some more weight, which is good be...

The nightmare returns

The week of my birthday in 2013, one of my two cats, Oslo, got a urinary blockage. It's a common problem for male cats, but he was my first boy, and I didn't know. I noticed odd behavior (sitting idly in the litter box) and asked my husband to keep an eye out for him during the day while I was gone,...

I look at my phone. I can't read analog clocks (at all - if I try I'm always wrong) so they're just useless number circles to me. I picked pants, though.

Re: What should allies do?

Things I don't ever want to fucking hear as a trans person: "Well, you'll always be a girl to me." Thanks. Thanks a whole lot. So you're going to disregard some highly personal information I disclosed to you in faith that you'd be an adult about it. No, I'm not transitioning right now. Yes, I choose...

Re: Why do women have to take their husband's last name?

Bear in mind that even if you don't witness an active, casually observable pressure, the implications are bred into girls from an incredibly young age. Into boys, too, really, since it goes both ways - many men will expect that a woman will take his name by default without questioning it, and many w...

Re: Why do women have to take their husband's last name?

I guess the question there is, beyond it being their choice of course, whether it should be acceptable for them to feel forced into changing their names to feel safer/more worth hiring, and if people in that position should fight against that or succumb to it.

Re: Why do women have to take their husband's last name?

I am currently in the process of getting divorced, but an enormous sticking point even prior to the wedding was this issue. I have a surname that is completely unique to my family - only five people in the world have it (my dad, his three siblings and myself), and it means a great deal to me that I ...

Re: Coming to work sick

I will go to work if I am sick if the symptoms don't involve coughing, sneezing or vomiting. I work in a restaurant - sneezing and coughing on people is not an option and if I'm sick, all the other servers are going to get sick and then we're really fucked. Vomiting, obviously, is even worse. There'...

Emotions need an off switch

So, yesterday was the day that my husband and I decided to get a divorce. Of course, it'll be a bit before we get the proceedings under way, but that was when we finalized the decision. We'd talked about our increasingly different lifestyle paths and how we both wanted different things, and had come...

Re: Are shows like South Park okay to watch?

South Park has become, over time, one of my favourite shows overall. I wasn't expecting that to happen - though I've always enjoyed it to a degree, I only began to see the value in it a couple years ago. I think that it has a lot of layers, a lot of different components that work together, and I thi...

Re: I owe feminists an apology

Hey, I've said all types of shit about different components of feminism over time, when I didn't fully understand it as a concept or didn't get exposed to enough examples of the issues at hand (like the case was with you). The important thing is that you had the presence of mind to realize when you ...

Re: Could you live in a tiny house?

I think I'd prefer it. It'd help with reducing clutter and it'd be easier to clean. I like smallish, private spaces. Even when I lived in a pretty big house (three stories plus a full basement, lots of space), I basically turned my room - which was the master and therefore had a big walk-in closet a...

Re: Jacket!

When I started altering my state, I would always pick what I was gonna wear beforehand with activities in mind, and make sure that I didn't take anything off throughout the night; even if I wanted to, I would remind myself, "no, you might get distracted and not remember till tomorrow and then X thin...

Re: Video Phone

There's no way I would use one. I hate talking on the phone, let alone having to be seen as well. I am a big fan of texting (although I text with correct grammar and full sentences, and 'txt speak' bothers me immensely) because I can communicate without others around me hearing, I can think more abo...

Consent & Boundaries

http://tigerbeatdown.com/2010/07/27/all-your-boobs-belong-to-us-some-thoughts-about-consent-while-female/ I don't like the way this presents heterosexual sex as being nonconsensual unless there are repeated, consistent requests for consent at every turn. That suggestion takes away the responsibility...

If I have a choice I never put my race. My name is an obviously female one so it doesn't make much difference if I bypass a sex question; however my race shouldn't matter and so I never put it if I don't have to. My mum does the same.

I shave my underarms very frequently; even a little stubble just feels awfully itchy. It's also a little necessary because with my job I have to present myself in a certain manner, which being largely hairless is a part of. That said, it's definitely a personal choice first and a professional choice...

What I want to tell you is that sex isn't important and that virginity is trivial. That they are put on a pedestal and ridiculed respectively because of stupid, pointless ideals in our society. I want to say that the time will come, and you'll find someone and it'll be awesome and rewarding, and sex...

I do, but only because the water in my city is seriously disgusting. We tried using a filtered jug for a while but even that didn't help. So we buy a 24 pack of bottled water and keep it in our room so our guests don't snatch them all up, because people seem to think water is free even when it isn't...
