Re: Total Solar Eclipse 2017

Just got home. I was in St. Joseph MO and when we woke up NOAA was predicting 62% cloud cover and 54% chance of rain. And we said, well, screw that. So we drove an extra 100 miles, about 20 of those through a deluge, chasing clear skies, ended up in Higginsville, MO. Not a cloud in the sky. Cried li...

Re: Total Solar Eclipse 2017

I think when my kids see other people staring up, they will want to find out what's up there that's so interesting and won't care they're not wearing the nerdy solar viewers. I'm hoping their insticts to look away from things that are too bright will kick in.

Re: Total Solar Eclipse 2017

ugh You are all arguing on FB about important stuff, and I'm arguing about eclipse viewers... How do you scroll past "I'm confused why don't people just buy a pair of sunglasses?" without jumping in? I am concerned the weather is going to be crap. >.< I'm getting a Charlie Brown vibe here... J/k. Ha...

Re: Total Solar Eclipse 2017

The nerd in me is super stoked. The rest of me is dreading the crowds and prospect of having to chase an opening in the clouds and the TRAFFIC. UGH the TRAFFIC... My husband and I and a cousin of his got to watch the final launch of the Discovery from Titusville, FL. The launch was scheduled for 4:3...

Re: Fb arguments

I see the arguments, I'm not on the fence, but I rarely join in because usually at some point what I want to type is "...you racist/sexist/bigoted idiotic fuckwad..." which sways no one. But, for what it's worth, sometimes your rants defending equality and social justice and just basic human decency...

Re: How on earth do you keep track of your passwords???

TWENTY FOUR. HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT??? My work password can't be any of my last 20 passwords... I'm sure there's someone who changes their password at every change request, but every single person I've griped abut this to has admitted they just keep the same password and roll the number at the end....

Re: How on earth do you keep track of your passwords???

Yes, I've heard a few pieces on NPR about the passwords.... I'm wondering how long it will take for companies to implement, and will they grandfather in old passwords so that I still have an obnoxious jumble of weird characters, and will I finally be done with rolling over the last number in the pas...

How on earth do you keep track of your passwords???

UUUUGGGGHHHHHHH I have terrible memory and I can't keep track of my passwords to save my life... I used to have a system, a simple mental algorithm to generate passwords. Then someone decided we needed capital letters and numbers in the password.... um, OK. Then someone imposed a minimum password le...

Purple planet has gone! Replaced with phpbb logo. Probably should get sorted out when you have time. I was about to say this... I tried squinting at the phpBB logo to see if it resembled anything Spacefemmy, but came up empty Their logo sucks, though -- I couldn't crack the secret code under the ma...

It's interesting you noted that--I had noticed it, but forgot to ask about it. The previous "Most users online at once" date was (I think) May 17, 2004, which made a lot more sense.

Not chips, but they're in the chips aisle: Snyder's Of Hanover Pretzel Pieces in Cheddar Cheese flavor. I could eat an entire bag in one sitting.

Re: Most distinctive job interview?

I haven't interviewed in a while, but when I was job-hunting, it always struck me how some of the interview formats at the time heavily favored skilled bullshitters. I get the lame straight-forward format: person looks over your resume/CV, and when they find anything that sounds interesting they ask...

Re: bad reasons for having a baby

To offset all these babies my conservative friends are having. I need to do something to help tip the scale. I miss having a full pony tail. So that I can park on that dumb "expecting mother" spot that's closer to the store entrance than even the handicapped spots. Because using all this baby stuff ...

Not having read your post, but just the heading, my response was "wine." But after reading your post, I thought "wine." Juuust kidding. Mine had bouts of separation anxiety, but nothing that seemed out of the ordinary from everything I read. I don't recall either of them being as sensitive to my (or...

I'm usually one for killing... but since my girls started naming the spiders in the house and then getting upset when they disappear, well, now they've crossed into the realm of 'welcome', haven't they? A lot of them seem to be named 'Lazlo'.

Re: What was the weirdest food you've ever eaten?

Depends on the definition of weird, and of "food". Weirdest animals I've eaten are scorpion and silk worms (which take the cake for most disgusting experience I've had eating something). I don't consider either of those "food". I find most meat/gelatin loaves so loved in German cuisine extremely wei...

I don't think my first pet was ever really my pet. It was an orange tabby named Bartolo. It was there for like a week. Then suddenly it wasn't. Maybe we were catsitting? I should really follow up on this with my mom...
