Re: How do you spend time when your power goes out?

I'd read or nap or go out and actually interact with neighbors. Or if it's too hot to live, drive to a mall or air-condition place with a generator. I've never dealt with a power out in the cold.

Re: What's your favorite poem?

So, granted, my exposure to poetry is limited to whatever my teachers wanted to cover in high school and freshman English, but I really like The Raven by Poe. I read his short stories and so I'd come across The Raven and Annabel Lee before my professor covered them. I was always pulled in by the per...

Dear Auto-flushing toilet: Why are you a thing? And why are you so splashy? And aren't you just enabling non-flushers' gross and WRONG choices? Yes, I know I can just cover you up with some tissue and disable you, but sometimes, that's just not my priority. End of rant.

Re: When does one become "a local"?

Huh. Now that you mention that, I've heard people use that as a standard before. I once had a colleague tell me "Oh no, I'm becoming a local." I asked why and he said "I was rooting for the [local Major League Baseball team] last night. He's originally from like 3 states away.

Re: Have you ever pretended you don't know something?

I have, but not in the context of the Žižek Game. There was this acquaintance who was into butting into conversations to correct and fact-check people and condescendingly explain jokes. It was very annoying, not just to me. A group of my friends ended up trying to bait this person into fact-checking...

Adult coloring stresses me more than de-stresses me. And the shelter also usually depresses me more than it makes me happy because my husband won't enable my crazy cat lady tendencies. I like light gardening (weeding, pruning, watering, spraying, no heavy work), and some me-time -- solo dining and w...

When does one become "a local"?

Ok, peoples who have moved around and lived in different places... After how long do you consider yourself "a local"? Never? After certain amount of years? After a certain percentage of your lifespan? After you stop having to google references to local stuffs? After you forget your previous address?...

denim cookies... duh :P

The shape of the denim was undefined. What if the cookies had depicted any of these? I couldn't risk it.

And while I'm derailing your cookie poll with nonsense, someone please explain this to me.

Make "social impact" a standard part of cost/benefit analysis in STEM curricula.
100% in favor of this

more later when I am able to someday drive home from being trapped in another state
A fix like this is relatively easy. The culture shift, maybe not so much.

I am So. Bad. At. Bowling. I rarely break 120. I can't spin the ball to save my life and can't bowl in anything but straight lines. I hate breaking my nails while the bowling is happening. I usually sprain/strain something in my body while bowling. I bowl in constant fear of falling. So no, I don't ...
