Re: harvey weinstein

I kind of feel like there have been consequences for high profile people in my field though, in the last few years, finally. So this isn't the first set of consequences so maybe for that reason it feels a little more real? Though I worry about everything people brought up here as well.

Re: harvey weinstein

I'm mostly noting names but not reading details because frankly I just can't anymore.

It does seem like things are changing though, and that's good. I mean how long have we been talking about this problem... idk I liked the one about driving 'em all into the sea.

Re: steampunk / clockwork book suggestions

No oneeeee?

*sniffle*

I ordered some books by James Blaylock, KW Jeter, and Tim Powers so I'll review them when they come and I read them. I already like Tim Powers as an author (loved Declare, Last Call series, etc) so that review may be biased.

Re: are you good at billiards?

I used to be pretty good, and I still tend to win when playing with other people who don't play often, but I don't think I'd quantify my playing as good anymore. It's decent enough for fun though and that's really all that matters.

I got my space leggings on ModCloth :)

What I really could use are some fleece-lined space leggings though, since it decided to Winter here

Re: New Job!

Headphones are the best, I got some nice big ones to block out my (now former) officemate who I love and is a great person but FFSshutupalready anyway. Is there anyone else in your group that you can get some other things to do? If your boss is leaving you'd think they'd be like "here's a bunch of s...

I bought a bunch in the men's section a while back and hemmed them, and they are nice (not that thin crap you get in the women's section) and have deep pockets. I am wearing dark blue ones right now.

steampunk / clockwork book suggestions

I like steampunk and clockwork kind of books but so rarely are any of the ones I pick up any *good* (see, to whit, Arabella from Mars in the book thread). Does anyone have any suggestions? Not that my to-read shelf is empty by any means but I want to run a game that's steampunk-y and I'm looking for...

New chamber found in Great Pyramid

This is pretty cool; they put up some detectors to use cosmic rays - basically fast moving particles from space; in this case muons - to see where the pyramid was missing rock. They mapped out the known ones and found a new one!

Check out the New Scientist article for more.

Re: what are you reading?

I read Akata Warrior (follow up to Akata Witch ) by Nnedi Okorafor and liked it, also read Updraft , Cloudbound and Horizon by Fran Wilde which had a really interesting setting though I thought the plot in the first one could have been better. I read the first book of the School of Good & Evil serie...

I've also recently found out that one of the people against microwaves is also against cooked food in general, so yeah.
ah, one of those. one can only hope they are vegetarian at least, unlike the people who were advocating eating raw chicken.

Re: what's the last movie you saw?

I finally saw Dr Strange and enjoyed it, though I did have to push away the whole "ugh eastern mysticism type things and they have white people mostly". I liked a superhero movie where the main character had to effing *learn shit* to do things and isn't even all that good at it yet (though there was...

Re: Microwaves

For the first one: cooking tends to make food nutrients more accessible (painting with broad brush strokes here) so ask them why they think cooking with one method is different than the other. The microwaves just jiggle the water molecules around faster (aka heats them) which then cooks things just ...
