Re: John Wick 3, Aladdin (2019), and Booksmart

I loved Booksmart! It was very funny, and I'm always here for the nerdy girls who are trying too hard. And a spoilery thing that I liked: neither of them has success with their love interests. That felt very true to life for me. I also liked the spoilery thing. It was good to see a movie take that ...

John Wick 3, Aladdin (2019), and Booksmart

John Wick 3 - -As expected, this movie turns up the action with John WIck now excommunicado and a price on his own head. The setpieces are fantastic with a lot of creative choreography for the hand-to-hand fights. They continue to build on the world as well. We get to see more elements of the High T...

Re: At Awesome Con

She was nice enough. Of course I'm an introvert who tends to keep small talk to a minimum and move on so others can get their time with her. More extroverted people may have more memorable interactions but everyone I met, including her, were very cool. Wil Wheaton was my favorite for the second day ...

At Awesome Con

So at Awesome Con and I totally blame my girlfriend for getting me into autograph collecting. I dropped a significant chunk of change but it's been great meeting some pretty cool celebrities. I met Wallace Shawn, Chris Sarandon, Susan Egan (I know her best as Megara from Hercules), and Weird Al Yank...

Re: Talk about your TTRPG characters!

My favorite character is a Tiefling bard who disguised himself as the mayor and framed said mayor for assaulting the tax collector. He knocked him out cold, so my character also stole the tax collector's clothes. He ran through town with the clothes to make sure people saw him. What? Don't tax adven...

Yes.
Several times on public transportation.

Amtrake
Once to Boston. Swore never to do it again because the stops kept waking me up. And I was in coach

Taking the Auto Train to Disney World in February. Got a sleeper car this time with bed. So hopefully a better experience.

Re: Return to Disney

The character meal sounds adorable but in my reality I'd feel so awkward interacting with them. I was vaguely intimidated by the characters even as a kid though. You should visit Pandora, the Avatar world too. OMG I'm jealous Disneyland doesn't have it. For me the awkwardness is part of the fun. La...

Re: have you waited tables?

No. I couldn't deal with the asshole customers.

That said, I try to be as empathetic as possible with my servers because I know they can only do so much (crowded room means not as fast service, if something is wrong I"ll politely ask them to correct it, etc.). I've seen "Waiting".

Return to Disney

I'll be making my glorious return to Disney World the near future. I gathered a little more information and have put together a nice itinerary (esp considering this is fairly last minute, relatively speaking) Things I'll be doing that I didn't do last time Character meals. This includes a lunch with...

Probably.

The girlfriend and I did Rugged Maniac yesterday then went to Medieval Times yesterday.

I got a good rest but I could use more.

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

But that's the issue. Trying to separate the criteria as you are, you're creating strawmen when no one looks only at whether or not an entity can form opinions It's not a strawman. "I'm not ignoring the bodily autonomy of the fetus. If it had an opinion on what to do with its own body parts I'd be ...

Trying to separate the criteria as you are, you're creating strawmen when no one looks only at whether or not an entity can form opinions Even if I agreed that it's two bodies working in concert, that does not mean one body has to consent to other body's need for teamwork. Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

I believe you're conflating two different discussions. Basically, I solely brought up the example of a 1-year-old child to showcase the idea that you can't murder something because it isn't able to have an opinion about something. You have to agree, in that murder is not justified when somebody can...

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

Just because something doesn't have an opinion on a matter -that doesn't mean it's okay to kill them. That's insane. If you ask a 1-year-old child what their opinion is of their bodily autonomy, they wouldn't be able to tell you. They can't form sentences. That doesn't mean we should ignore their b...

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

If you create a policy that knowingly affects one sex and not the other, then it has everything to do with sex. It may or may not strictly be sexist, but it's definitely related to sex in effect. "Pro-life" is not a stance nature takes, and so it is not nature that risks being sexist here, but whoe...

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

I would argue there's a false equivalence. A fetus that relies on the pregnant woman is not the same a a baby or child relying in its mother. A fetus takes bodily resources from the pregnant woman and comes with a lot of prenatal costs not every woman consents to paying. The mother who bears a child...
