Re: Flying while pregnant, Split from Cartoons for Little Girls in Feminism

Sassquatch, that's what I was wondering too! A friend who has three kids gave me some great advice about being pregnant. She said, "You're going to get advice from everyone. Feel free to ignore it unless it comes from your doctor!" (And she's a nurse, so for her to even exclude herself from the "adv...

Re: The pregnant woman's business trip from hell (or at least heck)

Wow, lyra211, that's really interesting information. So it sounds like she wasn't just screwing up mildly--she may have actually been reacting medically inappropriately. I'm glad it's (so far) worked out fine, but I definitely need to talk to the doc about this. :bomb: I guess it's somewhat co...

Re: The pregnant woman's business trip from hell (or at least heck)

Thanks, everyone. I WISH I could prioritize sleep--I think that's one of the big problems I'm having. If I go to bed early, I just wake up earlier--sometimes as early as 4am. (I usually wake up at 6.) My husband is being super-helpful at home (over the past couple of weeks, he's been known to sneak ...

The pregnant woman's business trip from hell (or at least heck)

Okay, this is a little bit ranty, but if I were to say what conversation I'm looking for, it would probably be (1) sympathy and (2) advice on managing a fairly intense career while pregnant. For those who don't read the New Members thread that closely, I'm two-weeks-new to Spacefem, and 6 weeks preg...

Re: Intro: pregnant nerd here!

Rowan, I stay away from the ocean--I'm a slough/bay/lake/gentle river kinda gal. My husband also has a massive fear of sharks (ironic from a career Marine), so that makes the ocean thing even more of a no-go. I'm sorry I disappeared for a week, also. I went on a business trip to Durham, NC (I live i...

Re: Intro: pregnant nerd here!

Wow, hi everyone! careme77, I picked it up from my husband, but the safer way is to take a class--there's a national (U.S.) chain called Woodcraft that offers dozens of classes on basic woodworking, wood turning, pyrography, etc. Gnarlbanya, glad to know there are others wandering about (and boy do ...

Re: let's list our favorite children's books

Ooo, ooo, one not listed here, from way back in 1971 (pre-me, but my parents read it to me when I was a kid): Father Fox's Pennyrhymes!

Re: Intro: pregnant nerd here!

Hi, Enigma! I'm doing some spindle turning on the lathe, though I'm still fairly new at it. I'd like to do more bowls--I took a class where I made a bowl with a lid, and it turned out lovely, but I'm still learning how to work with different grains/woods for the complexities of bowl turning. My next...

Intro: pregnant nerd here!

Hi, folks, I found spacefem when I (much like Spacefem herself, it appears) was trying to find some good hard statistics to calm my overactive imagination in the early weeks of pregnancy. I'm a tech nerd (product management in Silicon Valley, BA and MBA), 39 years old (geriatric pregnancy ahoy!), an...
