Re: What was the weirdest food you've ever eaten?

Hmmm. The weirdest food that I eat regularly is broccoli with nutritional yeast and sriracha.

The weirdest food I've ever eaten is hard to say. I don't really tend to eat too many weird foods - like I never eat any exotic meats or anything. I'm up for trying anything veg though.

Re: Happiest Baby on the Block

My mom was told to choose one book and use that instead of trying to make sense of all the conflicting books out there. I found wonder weeks really great but the library only had two copies and it was always popular so I never finished it. That's probably a really good idea. I think then I should b...

Re: Happiest Baby on the Block

I (thankfully) took a breastfeeding class. It was free and offered through the pediatrician that we are going to be using. My mom is also very pro-breastfeeding so I think she'll be helpful. I'll look into the baby book by Sears, it is available at my local library (an older edition, but how much co...

Happiest Baby on the Block

I'm reading this now, so far it seems like Karp is just going on and on about how no one knows what causes crying babies... I've learned that babies fuss or cry for up to 4 hours per day. Remind me again why I got myself into this shit? My due date is in two days and there's no sign of any impending...

Re: do you have mice?

Thankfully no! Our upstairs neighbors have a cat so I think that would help with any potential mouse problem :-)

Re: New Here, Hi There

I like both spicy (hot) and spicy (heavily flavored) foods. Of course I'd prefer both heavily flavored and hot :-) If you ever are in NYC and want good spicy food, go to NYC's only Michelin starred Chinese restaurant - Cafe China and order just about anything. Their food is both hot spicy and layere...

Re: what do you dislike about children?

They are often little assholes. They have little to no awareness of how their actions impact others when they are younger. And forget about pre-teens/teenagers. God damn talk about self involved little jerks. Also the fucking shrieking. I went to the library yesterday and there was a 2 or 3 year old...

Re: what animals have you dissected?

Worm, frog, fetal pig. All in freshman year (high school) biology. I was quite adept at it. My male lab partner refused to touch or cut any of the animals but he wrote up stellar lab reports so it worked out fine.

Re: What is the optimal amount of art to have in your home?

We have maybe one or two paintings per room. I like a lot of blank space. I think it is because my mom's house growing up had a ton of shit and it was just a bit overwhelming. Like she'd do those whole "home interiors" arrangements that had a set of 3 pictures, then a shelf with flowers on it, and t...

Re: New Here, Hi There

Nachos, what sort of lab skills course? This sounds interesting. Lab was always my favorite part of being a chemistry major.

Re: Summer Solstice

I must have lost my vegan membership, no idea solstice was a thing for us weirdos. Around here, everyone disappears into the countryside for midsummer. Most businesses are closed and the cities are eerily empty. So you still might not get that reservation. I have no idea if restaurants are places t...

Re: Summer Solstice

I convinced my husband to get me takeout from a vegan food truck, so he'll wait in the weird summer solstice lines and I can just relax at home :-)

Summer Solstice

Today is my birthday, cool right? Being born on the longest day of the year is nifty. Except I want to go out for dinner for my birthday... and I mostly follow a vegan diet. Guess which fucking weirdos like to celebrate the solstice? If you guessed vegans, you'd be right. So despite it being a Wedne...

Re: New Here, Hi There

Welcome! My aunt used to have a shih tzu that enjoyed licking my toes. She was a great dog. (The dog, not my aunt) Here's to hoping your uterus cooperates! My dog is a notorious toe licker. She doesn't lick my toes because I've trained her not to. We used to live in a 40 floor building and she'd li...

Re: New Here, Hi There

Hi DarkOne. I taught primarily high school chemistry, though I also taught environmental science, sex ed, and java programming. In inner city schools they pretty much throw you into the flames. I've tutored everything from 4th grade math up through calculus, and all science up through college level ...

Re: What does your ideal bedroom look like?

I'm not sure if my bedroom is "ideal" but I like it. I painted it a light grey-ish purple. I've got mostly white furniture. My office/desk is in the corner, but it is okay because my bedroom is huge. It has double closets (one for me and one for my husband), two windows, and a sliding glass door out...

Re: New Here, Hi There

Thanks for the welcome Rowan and Bork :-) Bork - I really enjoyed chem as a major. Pretty math driven, not too much memorization because you could conceptualize things, and chem majors at my school were fun people :-) I'm still friends with lots of them 10 years post undergrad. One of my former stud...

Re: New Here, Hi There

Hi there, welcome to the spacefem forums! You'd be surprised by how many people don't find the FAQ link ;) What sort of dog do you have? Is it super adorable? How many weeks are you? There is a ton of information on all sorts in our subforum Pregnancy and Parenting, but you're welcome to post in ot...
