Re: What books are you reading and should we read them too?

My reading list has just trebled in size.... I have read: A world on the Edge- Lester Brown- a free book on climate change- most climate books tend to leave you with a sense of impending doom, this one nice in that it spelled out what we actually had to do to skip some of the doom part! Lots of stat...

Re: Having to prove yourself

It happens everywhere, I usually find great fun in proving people wrong on gender stereotypes. People in the retail store I used to work in asking for males to carry the bags of compost- when I was stronger than half the men there so used to carry 3 at once just to prove them wrong. So though it doe...

Re: favorite workout equipment

In the gym I like the elliptical- I can wedge a book on the screen-bit then read as a run! So spending an hour on it isn't a problem as I am entertained by reading! Outside of the gym I am partial to running (preferably round the park, roads suck!) and swimming (but the pool is always full of annoyi...

Re: do you have a tablet-type device?

I have a sony ereader, and its great! Its the PRS:300, so the screen is really little (only 5 inches). Used to have an iRiver iStory- which was much superior- it took SD cards so you could have unlimited amounts of books, and the battery lasted for 3 months even with reading every night. On the sony...

Kudos to going to the gym every day! Especially in the morning! And even more especially whilst pregnant! I can't even manage to attend the gym in the mornings, and i have aboslutely no excuse.

Re: A claim to have cured HIV using Stem Cells

The huffington post isn't the best news-worthy source int he world- but its freely accessible whereas the whole journal article is not, hence I linked to it. I only skimmed the journal article as it used long words that bewildered me, but in my limited understanding of genetics and biology and whatn...

Re: Shitty day to be a student

These hikes really do suck. Its bad enough the people coming out of uni today (at #3K a year fees) are expecting to never own a house (I certainly don't ever expect to), piling more debt on seems ridiculous. I could sort of understand if getting a degree guaranteed you a job, but there's more gradua...

A claim to have cured HIV using Stem Cells

I've not found this widely reported, or with any better articles. But it would be awesome if it were all true!

Re: We got snow.

It hasn't snowed for two days and quite a lot of it is gone now :( I acquired another car battery too- so its back to work tomorrow!

Its weird that this is really localised snow- my stepDads house is 50 miles away- they've only had a sprinkling of snow!

Re: We got snow.

I've never seen this much snow in my life before... this is waaaaaay more snow than usual! And the car battery has been knackered for a while, I knew it was on the way out and just lacked the funds to fix it! I like snow and being prepared for it- but only for living/walking. I'd really like to camp...

Re: We got snow.

Its mostly in Ranting because my car wont' start.. I don't mind the snow- its awesome if you get to play in it, but less awesome if you want to actually get things done. Taking the dog to the park in snow- awesome. Having to work from home and being constantly interrupted by parents, sitting in the ...

MLP: Promiscuous women cause earthquakes

An Iranian cleric is claiming women being promiscuous and scantily clad causes earthquakes http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/8631775.stm Shows how far we still have to go with Feminism in some countries, and makes me wonder what i can do to help. Hmmm, I'm probably ont he side of more-annoying-veggie right now, but I'm not being preachy, its just become easier for me to not eat meat (less throwing up, yay!), but I'm still having a hard time adjusting. Like I'm going camping this weekend, I usually eat burger, what veggie food is awesome on a...

Plus you're an adult now, your making your own decisions, why are you even showing them your grades in the first place? Unfortunately I have to live with them! Parental Expectations, and the fact that even if you tell them its never going to happen. they continue to tell all their friends and brag about it... just to make you feel even worse about letting them down. at least it feels that way. first year of uni I managed all As, w00t, yay. I did change once, and got quite used to it.. then went back to uni and it was just a pain having to alter the keyboard settings everytime I sat down (and one some compuetrs you couldn't alter anys ettings)- so I ended up going back to qwerty purely because constantly switching formats was annoying.

Re: "Sicko"

one thing the NHS doesn't really cover is dental and optical stuff- but its all subsidised so it still isn't expensive. its like £40 for a filling, and maybe £80 for a pair off glasses.

No free college here, though it is lots cheaper than elsewhere.
