Re: what's good with peanut butter?

Two slices of bread.

Yes, I ate peanut butter and nothing else sandwiches as a kid. I was a weird one. These days, I'll go with jelly or Nutella.

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

The comparison becomes no less flimsy when you repeat it. Land is not a body; a born slave is not a fetus. The connecting similarity does not hold if you disagree about the status of a fetus or a body. Also, the sexism in being anti-choice is still there. You're taking a question with no clear answe...

Re: What will you do for our talent show?

I will sing any song picked by an audience. If I know it, I will reasonably approximate the vocals. If I don't know it, I will make up what seems in my mind like a suitable beat.

Re: What power tools do you own?

I have an electric drill. I grew up around power tools and took a shop class, but this is the first time in a long time that I'll even have to use a mower, so I've been away from it for some time.

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

In a world where only women have arms, why is it okay for a ban on assault to cover a ban on punching (a rule that is only applicable to women who who have arms)? And in a world where only women can bear children, why is it not okay for a ban on murder to cover a ban on abortion (a rule that is onl...

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

If you create a policy that knowingly affects one sex and not the other, then it has everything to do with sex. It may or may not strictly be sexist, but it's definitely related to sex in effect. "Pro-life" is not a stance nature takes, and so it is not nature that risks being sexist here, but whoev...

Re: Abortion - My Stance and Why I Can Still Be a Feminist

1. Just regarding the subject of your thread, the only part of the argument pertaining to why you can still be a feminist is this: And so, as you can see, my viewpoint has nothing to do with sex, and if men could bear children, my stance would be exactly the same. This is why I am pro-life, and why ...

Yes! I went the other way - I was taking Calculus and Differential Equations and took Physics to further my understanding of the problems we were discussing. Then I focused on my English degree and some of the content-specific knowledge has drifted away. I still want to understand how light and lase...

Re: Do you watch romantic comedies?

^ Same. I overheard and watched Pride and Prejudice and every film involving Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Colin Firth, and other romantic comedy stars many a time. Tom Hanks, too. This also bled into romance, of course: my mom took me to see First Knight in the theater, a fact that gives me consider...

Re: housemates + newborn = ?

As someone with a two month old who has had to worry about temporary couchmates and people in downstairs apartments, I'll only emphasize how much space babies can take up. BabySonic has a room of stuff: a changing table, a rocker, a playmat, a place for the stroller, a crib, and other supplies. Baby...

Re: Compromise between Conservatives/TERFeminism and Transfeminism.

Is greater regulation of trans bodies a viable solution to gender policing? I don't think that's a great answer. If you require trans women to prove they're women, then you're perpetuating an expectation that trans women are not automatically women. If what allows them to be women in a specific spac...

Re: What's your favorite family holiday tradition?

I profoundly miss lighting off fireworks on the Fourth of July. We did that every year growing up and every year I've been able to visit. If I wasn't continuously lighting off bottle rockets, roman candles, and other armaments from 6 PM to when we ran out, it wasn't the Fourth. However, for the past...

Half a closet and some drawers. I need to get some new pants and shirts and throw some older ones out. Even after my last closet purge, I have a few items of clothing from high school that are of their decade and don't fit my personal style anymore. Side note: I wish I could make zippable short/pant...

Re: what's the last movie you saw?

I saw The Disaster Artist . It's the story of the bad film The Disaster Room. For the most part I found it cringeworthy; James Franco's portrayal of the mysterious Tommy Wiseau and Dave Franco's naivety as Greg Sestero were fascinating for the first twenty minutes. After that, the rest of the film w...
