Re: Do you have any scars?

I've never been badly injured. I do have faint acne scars, a piece of pencil lead (graphite) in my knee, random dark spots on my legs from having scratched my skin off.

Re: what's the last food you made?

Thanks for the advice, RD! I had no idea that top sirloin was tough, shows what I know. I'm going to look for the app, I've wanted a sous vide (Anova!) for years, but now that I've learned about the cooler hack, I don't want to cook meat any other way. Any advice on citrus curd? I made it in a doubl...

Re: what are you reading?

I will check it out, then! The only controversy I'd heard was that it was being published maybe without Harper Lee's actual consent. I wouldn't be surprised if it were published without her consent. I was wondering why it has taken so many decades to release. I've heard a lot of people complain tha...

Yeah, think about "working outside the home"--should you feel guilty for doing that 260 days per year? Nope.

Re: Target is removing gendered signage from its stores

Okay wait... If you only read one conservative reaction to this story, make it this one: http://www.youngcons.com/target-gets-rid-of-gender-labels-on-toys-sold-in-stores/ I had a physical reaction to this article. True nausea, I wanted to throw up. Fear mongering, our boys have different brains tha...

Re: Can men be feminists?

I call people on their BS whenever it comes up. Even though I approach addressing BS in a calm manner without emotional language, it always backfires. I still call people on their BS anyway, because I feel that it's my duty. At this point in my life, I don't care if people call me a bitch behind my...

Re: Can men be feminists?

Not to mention that feminism is good for men! How many men do you know hold their feelings back because that's what boys are supposed to do? How many have poor relationships with women because of their false views about the roles of women in society? Women are half of the population, without equalit...

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles with depression, and I really feel for you. This hits so close to home for me. My husband and I will probably be depressed for the rest of our lives. I'm thankful for so much in my life, especially my relationship with Mr. Zeph, my good job, the privilege of ha...

Re: what's the last food you made?

I made filet mignon using the sous-vide method (ice chest full of 145 degree water, submerge for 1 hour in a ziplock bag, sear in a pan) and it was AMAZING. The top sirloin turned out too tough and stringy to chew. What a waste! I undercooked the brussels sprouts and they were inedible. Don't even g...

The greatest thing I ever witnessed was a chihuahua eat a monarch butterfly last summer by the pool. Hope he didn't get sick, but he owner was not in sight!

Re: Target is removing gendered signage from its stores

It's not hard to find the "boys" or "girls" toys because they are still segregated. Just find the pink & purple aisle. Why is this is controversial? It's not like they are only carrying gender-neutral toys (not that I would mind!). It's such a tiny change and won't affect the shopping habits of most...

Re: How is your garden growing?

I had a GORGEOUS garden this spring and my patio was lush, but I failed to install my sun sail so the direct sunlight scorched everything. I'm moving in a couple of days and I'm just taking the survivors (mostly snake plants).

I should be finishing Go Set a Watchman today, by Harper Lee. What'd you think? I really enjoyed it! I think there was too much controversy surrounding this book. I always identified a lot with Jean Louise (Scout), because I also grew up with my dad and brother and felt uncomfortable with tradition...

Re: have you seen butterflies lately?

Not lately, but one time in Austria I went to DAS SCHMETTERLINGHAUS. I went there too! Had no idea it was there but just wandering around the city and saw the SCHMETTERLINGS! Sometimes now I call my partner my schmetterling. I went here, too! I had no money for admission, so I sat outside and ate a...

Sorry I know this isn't helpful but your healthcare system pisses me off. Healthcare should be a human right. move to Canada! :P I agree with this! Except the moving to Canada part. I love living in the U.S., but our healthcare system is profit-driven and ridiculous. Our current national healthcare...

I have been weaving on a child-sized loom and wanted to piece all the rectangles together into a blanket, but it would probably just look like a giant place mat. Not sure what to do here.

I'm also making an ottoman cover and cushion covers because my sofa throw pillows are ugh.

I'm sorry your family has to go through this. Are you renting a house? I've been told by friends that they had worse luck with management when they rented a standalone home. Luckily, I've never had an issue with the apartments I rent, I look at reviews and ignore the small stuff ("lady in the office...
