He was quieter today. he is good at saying things that make you scratch your head as to how appropriate they are. Like "Damn!" Look someone in the eyes pause and complement their work and you think he's really saying damn they are attractive. Or how we were talking today about how frustrating it is ...

My scary customer by nerd1987

Today our regular suave talkative customer came in and told me he had been going around looking for my coworker who he's infatuated with. He then asked if she was working, didn't believe me when I said no, and repeatedly demanded her schedule and told me its my business to tell him it. He then got a...

I think a sincere feminist would listen to any well thought out and sincere ideas but you can find closed off people in any setting. Sometimes it's just a personality mismatch.

when I get stumped conceptually in math I have to remember it took thousands of years to get where we are today with it. It wasn't just one genius sat down and figured it all out in one sitting. Even Einstein had to read math books before he became prolific.

Re: Aren't men's rights important? (Split from Feminist FAQ)

First let me point out a weakness in my argument: testosterone. Ok so in general those with power learn to abuse it quickly and more slowly over generations. In my own experience I have surrounded myself with a couple powerful women. They are great people but they quite naturally abuse their power a...

Re: emasculating my spouse

Ok I agree with what you both said. I was just saying that some of these irrational masculine values are hard to shake. Maybe I should work out if not working out makes me insecure (my situation). As far as who has the power I can agree that feminism has work to do in its specific arena but to sugge...

Re: Can you be a feminist and *not* be pro-LGBT?

I can't imagine being a very effective feminist in the capacities most needed at this stage in the game without being a generally sensitive person. You have to see nuances to get modern feminism and if you can't get down with LGBT then I doubt you can see these nuances.

Purple Rain. I liked and was puzzled by that movie. It was compelling but also wacky at times.

Re: Aren't men's rights important? (Split from Feminist FAQ)

I don't know how serious some people (a couple here) are but I like the balance of strong views from one side and also from the other. Helps to open my mind to other peoples' views whether or not I agree.

Re: emasculating my spouse

Yeah fair enough. I feel like boys are socialized to compete and dominate in general more than girls. Girls more to be social. Anyway that's what they keep telling me at school. When you talk in generalizations it's speaking to a pattern not every unique individuals experience. When I think about pe...

Re: emasculating my spouse

That's either nice thing to say or extra sarcastic lol. I'm just saying men are a bit of victims in this world too cause we are taught to be the best and you can't be the best at everything. I think it makes many men chase after career goals never fully satisfied.

Let me make a fallacious argument too; here we go... Ok so I use to be pro life but once I got over the idea that just because an embryo has been created by hypothetically my sperm and someone else's egg doesn't mean that the potential for a meaningful life for the future child is my problem then I ...

I'm one of those people who needs to not read about health concerns online

After watching forensic files I am now worried that I have mercury poisoning lol. My dad always had some around cause he thought it was fun to play with. But I read it's so viscous it's only a problem when vacuumed or somehow made airborne so I need to calm down.

I agree Mels. I think I do that. I don't know where you draw the line of when it's ok to euthanize a fetus. Is it based on brain development or the ability to feel pain. Idk. In those cases maybe we should treat other primates and dolphins etc with more dignity. I believe some of those animals are m...

In Mindy Project the main character's SO was beyond help with his masculinity issues. Sounds like you are in a much better position :)
