not the speech I agreed to give

Post by melsbells » Thu May 26, 16:53 2016

It's the end of the school year and there's going to be some kind of closing ceremony. My teacher asked everyone in the class, but also me and a couple of other students specifically, to give speeches. I agreed, mostly out of empathy, even though I have no interest in giving a speech. I went about starting to write, and then my teacher decided that this speech would be given in juncture with the only other person who volunteered, albeit accidentally. Then I started being given papers from all of my classmates with year review speeches (anywhere from a few lines to a page) written on them. I have now been asked to quote something from each of my classmates in this joint speech. I'm really struggling to figure out how to compile everything into something cohesive. I think I'm going to be awarded a stipend, so there's extra pressure to make this not so terrible that the school regrets the decision to retroactively fund my studies. This is not what I thought I would be doing when I agreed to give a speech.

Ugh I hate it when they change stuff like that. :( Good luck.

That sounds like it snowballed into something horribly complicated...

RIP.

But seriously, you can do it! What's the worst that can happen?

I'm still a little annoyed that the requirements kept changing on us, but it's over and no one can do anything about it now. The speech went over well. I think people even understood us.

I'm glad to hear that it went well even if it wasn't quite what you signed up for :)
