DareDevil ~ The Movie

Post by Draak » Tue Feb 25, 12:59 2003

With all the hype that X-men received, deservingly so, most motion picture companies have bought up the rights of comic books and are making them into movies. Right now there are nine comics related movies in the works. Not to forget those that have already come before; Superman, Batman and Spiderman. And those that come after; Superman (again), X-men 2 and the Hulk.

Imagine a cold winter Sunday night, the smell of snow in the air. Your beau drives on down to the movie theatre since you are both sick of being locked up in the house. Excitement at finally being out and about, wanting to see this movie since it came out, you take your seats and sit back and watch the previews of other movies to come. X-men 2 looks awesome, as well as the Hulk. And finally after a half an hour...DareDevil.

I had many misconceptions from the start, mainly Ben Affleck playing a superhero. But I wanted to see it because Kevin Smith was involved. For those of you that don't know who Kevin Smith is, he's the writer/director/Silent Bob of the Jay and Silent Bob Movies, who also writes DareDevil comics in his spare time.

The story line wasn't exceptional, but bearable. There's alot things they did that didn't follow the original story line, but the common joe (that doesn't read the comics) wouldn't know.

The thing that ruined it for me was the cinematography. The night scenes are too dark for my tastes. I don't like having to squint to see what's going on in a fight scene. Only, three fight scenes are not done in the dark. So, by the time the movie was over and we left the movie theatre I had a headache the size of Texas and it felt like my eyeballs were going to fall out of my head.

I must say though, Ben Affleck did a superb job. He portrays a blind man very well and he really fit the character. A big suprise, since I think Ben doesn't have alot of range. So, they either wrote the screenplay around him or he overstepped his boundries for this movie.

All in all an okay movie. I would wait for it to come out on video, don't waste twenty bucks to see it in the theatre. I give it 2.5 stars out of five.

$20?? Damn, its so expensive in Misery!

How was my girl Jenny in it? Was her acting ok? Did she suit her role at all?
Did she always wear that tight leather catsuit?

She was spectacular! But only two scenes with her in the cat-suit. :(

2 is better than 1, right?

Now I really have to watch it! But I think I'll just wait a few weeks and download it.

Were the fight scenes ok?
Could Ben Affleck actually pull off the moves or did it look really fake?
Coz Matt Damon coiuld sure as hell do his own fighting...

Yes, the fight scenes were believable, but like I said ALOT of them were at night and so dark you couldn't really see all that well.

and on a side note...MATT DAMON SUCKS! *snickers* I dont' think Matt would have been able to pull it off.

What???

Did you see him in "Bourne Identity"??
All his moves were pretty realistic!
And his acting is so much better too.
Not to mention, he's also way buffer than Ben.
And I'm straight.

NO...I was told the Bourne Identity sucked, so I didn't watch it. Ben has classic lines where Matt looks like a prune. And, oh yes, I am doubting you sexuality! <-sarcastic like

Geez, TZ, just because you admire someone else's body, even if that body happens to be male, doesn't make you homosexual. Unless, you keep saying this because you have to prove it to yourself over and over and over again...

As far as acting ability is concerned, I rate both Ben and Matt in the same category. They both play the same person over and over again, and neither have a lot of range.

What? Someone thought "Bourne Identity" sucked???? I really liked that - not to mention that Matt was seriously ripped in that one.
Any girl that doesn't wet herself over that bod need to reconsider. And i'm gonna be like that in a couple months! yay!

Ok Draak, in terms of body, who do YOU think is better?

Goddess have mercy, my poor thread has gone from a review straight into HELL!!

I thought we already had this conversation...NEITHER!! I'm not into the ripped, grate cheese on my abs, buff men. If I had a gun to my head and had to choose between the two it would have to be Ben. Only because Matt is a short shit and I'd rather look up into a guys eyes.

But all in all I would rather have Kevin Smith! ;)

Fine, I'll stop bugging you about Matt (who you just love putting down).

So mise en scene(sp), anyone?

20 bucks!? Where are you from? It only 6.00 for one adult here and was worth it for me. I know nothing about the comic or any comics...except Archie (Don't ask). But, I have a question...who left the necklace for him @ the very end?

i thought Bourne Identity was awesome, for what it's worth. in fact, i am now curious as to what everyone else thought. to keep from ruining Draak's Dare Devil thread i will start one just for Bourne.

anyhow..... yeah, i have to see Dare Devil, if only because of Jennifer G. she rules so much in alias, i think she will fit the role well. i hope.

or she could just take off her clothes... :P

No luck. It's a goddam PG13. She does wear that catsuit though.

I thought Daredevil was a pretty good movie, just not great. i somehow managed to see it three times though(no, it wasn't that good, just don't ask). Anyway, i have to agree with Draak that many of the scenes were annoyingly dark. I also agree that ben was pretty good in this movie. I also thought that colin farrell was good too, but that might just be me.

About the darkness in the movie, I just remembered either the director or some critic saying that they were going for that film noir kinda effect...maybe they kinda overdid it.

I'm from the St. Louis Metro area. The tickets are $8.00 per person, including the soda we shared which was four bucks. As far as who left the necklace, if I say anything it would kinda be a spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen it, but I will PM you and let you know my thoughts.

Colin Farrell did an amazing job as Bull's-Eye. I never pictured him as a bad guy before this movie, but he really pulled it off.

Dude, this is a place for reviews...NOT spoilers. There are people that have not seen the movie.
