How are you feeling?

Post by DarkOne » Wed Nov 9, 9:31 2016

I understand everyone will handle this fiasco differently, but I'm one of those who just can't shut up and needs an outlet. This stupid poll is my way of coping. How are you feeling?

Awful. Like nothing is ever going to be okay ever again.

I just want to thank my fellow Americans for proving, once again, we're just a disappointing sack of dicks.

I'm finding it hard to keep it together. I'm in a super red state. I'm always the first one in at work, and of course, first guy who walks in gloats. I just about ripped his head off ... in my mind. I managed to keep it classy. But, really, today, right now, I just want to cry. Punch shit and rage cry.

I want to punch people.

I haven't felt this much violence raging in myself ever, apart from toward my abusive advisor.

Pretty sure this election has been fairly triggering for me.

Tear the two-party system apart. Neither "side" works any longer.

This. Talking politics with all kinds of people I maybe shouldn't today.

I feel really bad. So far all I've done to prepare is made an appointment for an IUD, but now I'm worried about what will happen if/when they gut the ACA. I won't be among the hardest hit but I was counting on 13 more months of insurance than I might get.

I'm nervous that a lot of things are going to be rolled back either by law (allowing companies to deny insurance to people with disabilities and pre-existing conditions; stepping up immigration enforcement) or through nominations that will affect the judicial process for decades (Roe v. Wade, key First Amendment protections, the right to marry).

I'm especially apprehensive about tone on a couple of levels. There are already lots of reports of bigots harassing black people, Asian people, and people who follow Islam. Even if that's not the majority of Trump supporters, the white supremacists and bigots of this country basically see themselves as having free license to harass. On another level, I'm fearful of how political discourse has been changed. Trump has demonstrated that he can be blatantly racist and sexist, lie through his teeth, and deny the fundamental integrity of voting and still win. The Republican-held Congress has demonstrated that they can deny court appointments for months or years and obstruct any effort to get things done and still win an election. That means that obstructionism may have just become a regular part of political life, one that Democrats in the Senate can't really enjoy because Republicans would likely repeal the filibuster rule if that happened.

I'm also determined in a way. Maybe this will be a clarion call to the importance of defending key rights. Maybe Americans will more actively engage in the political process.

I'm so upset. I am not okay, but I also have quite a bit of relative privilege so I feel like my emotional paralysis is selfish. I feel like I should get over it and get to work defending those with even less power. I just feel so defeated.

I'm also rather hung over. A bunch of my fellow evolutionary biologists and I went out and drank a LOT last night. Probably ought to find another coping mechanism.

I keep see-sawing between depression and determination. Also, confusion. I just don't understand how people can be like this.

Im feeling like, theres a kink in my neck, pressure build up in my brain, from sitting at the PC too long. I wouldnt describe it as painful, but densely uncomfortable.
